Hiring lenses in Adelaide

Postby xorl on Sat Oct 22, 2005 1:01 pm

Hi,
Does anyone know a good place in Adelaide to hire/borrow a 70-200/2.8 or 80-200/2.8? I've got a dance ball on next Saturday night and as usual I'm taking photos ;). In the past I've just used my 50/1.4 (which works well), but it's not really possible to fill the frame since I can't go running onto the floor during a showcase ;). I figure the extra reach from a fast telephoto zoom will make it about perfect. A 70/80-200 is on my wish list but unfortunately I don't have the budget for it yet..

I rang a place in town (I think they are called Photographic Wholesalers??) and it costed at least 85$ a day to hire any telephoto zooms.

Thanks Oli, I'll give them a call when I ring around town this week. I think there are probably a couple of other places which hire out gear as well - I just need to find them. Hopefully one of them has a fast zoom in stock.

I've hired a 80-200/2.8 from L&P for Saturday. It's the push/pull version, I would have preferred separate focus/zoom rings but it should still do the job well. The service at L&P seems pretty good. Since they aren't open on Sunday they hired the lens out for the entire weekend at the day rate & then gave me a discount on top of that. I guess I'll be going there again ;).

Looks like 'll be spending tonight getting familiar with the push/pull thingy. I'm guessing that AF-C mode isn't going to be as fun..

L&P photographics in Kent Town. It was one of the camera stores I hadn't got around to visiting (until today). Their day rate is $50 but they gave it to me for $40 (for the weekend).

For anyone who is interested their website is here:
http://www.lapfoto.com.au/

They seem to have a good selection of gear and very reasonable prices.

Cheers for the heads up Mark.

I found that website earlier when I was poking around for places to hire gear in Adelaide. I'm not sure if the site is related to the Adelaide L&P since the "Contact Us" page only lists a NSW store.
I'm not sure the Adelaide store is up with this whole "Internet" thing. ;)

Has anyone else been hiring lenses from L & P? (or elsewhere in adelaide)?
Is $40 for a weekend the general case or did xorl just strike it lucky one time?

lens hire

Postby rookie2 on Wed Jan 25, 2006 5:05 pm

sounds great to me.
are you a pro shooter - I imagine they wouldnt hire out to wannabe pros (ie enthusiastic but not fully skilled) snappers like me.
I'd love to try out the 105 macro and a VR lens prior to purchasing.
what did you hire?
cheers
Rookie2...just about to head to victor for a long w/e and some more practice! :!:

rookie2 - another option would be to come along to the next 'Meet' in about 8-10 weeks, place undecided at this stage (may be Adelaide Zoo  ) and you can try both lenses for nothing.

rookie2, L&P will hire to anyone that pays for the service ;). You don't have to be a "pro" to hire a lens.
