Today I have spoken to Kevin Taylor of Cheetham Salt Limited, Dry Creek (Formerly owned by Penrice Soda) re photo shoot in the near future ie. thinking 22 or 29 January 2006. Before I proceed with formal application in writing (e-mail), and there are no guarantees that I will be successful, but I need to know the following:

1- Are other registered users/members interested.

2- In view of the time of the year, looking at entry before sunrise for shooting landscape - rising sun across the salt ponds and birdlife on a Sunday morning and stay between 3-4 hours. (Maximum number 10). I need to supply on application reason why we are wanting to visit: dead easy photography, together with names.

3- There will also be restricted areas inside the fields for security reasons etc.

4- Also indemnity forms will need to be signed by each person ie. enter at your own risk etc.

Try to organise something every 10 week or so, therefore 5 per annum.

Next one will most probably be Adelaide Zoo, when the new Lion and Tiger enclosures are finished. 'Big V' is our Adelaide Zoo correspondent, as he visits there frequently.

Update - application in writing (e-mail) sent to Cheetham Salt Limted today for possible photo shoot on 22 Janaury 2006. No reply so far. Everyone interested, please keep a close eye on this thread over coming days.

So who have we got Fozzie?

You, me, Virgs, Schniff and maybe Jenko? Man, we should just organise our own get togethers. Adelaide people just don't seem to be that interested.

Come on guys. Fozzie has got every piece of camera equipment ever made for a Nikon and he actually lets people try it out! It's only a few hours out of your day. I'm going to drive 500km for it. Rob drove a lot further for the last meet. You might even learn something.

Also digitor.

At the moment I can not get in contact with Schniff, must be on annual leave or something.

Just remeber, this event will not proceed without the approval of Cheetham Salt Limited. I will update the thread when I have further information.

Please Note: If it goes ahead, I can also bring some Micro/Macro lenses + SB-800 for others to play with.

Rob,
Welcome you and your superior to Sydney in Mach 06, if there's no meet in Sydney then definitely a special meet to welcome both of you up Boat Harbour, Nelson Bay.

Looks like if this thing goes ahead I will be a spectator.. Managed to damage my EF-S 10-22 which is currently being repaired, and my 300D is being serviced and getting the sensor cleaned.

Im still willing to go an meet some of you however, as I live nearby and don't mind getting up early.

Bummer Schniff! If you brought some CF cards I'm sure you could borrow cameras here and there for some pictures if you wanted to. BigV has a 300D.

Yeah, I'll bring some cards and my 120-300 if anyone with a Canon wants to have a crack at it.

Due to unforseen circumstances, I have been unable to contact Kevin Taylor at Cheetham Salt Limited, Dry Creek today. Therefore, I follow up and report back tomorrow night.

Schniff, we can both use my 300D, just bring your cards and lenses..You can also try my 80-400 OS lens..
Marvin may not be able to make it as her hubby has to work now..
I will contact jenko and see if I can borrow his spare 300d as well plus his 70-200 2.8 IS..

Yeah. Pete informed me that he has to work on the weekend now. So I may not be able to make it unless I can wangle something as I will have the kids and don't want to drag them out that early and then drive home! Bummer!

This is the entire content of the e-mail from Kevin Taylor received today:

"Leighton

Sorry for the delay in reply. I have been on leave. Further to your application, Cheetham only allow people on site during daylight hours for safety purposes. The area designated for your proposed activities is located between St. Kilda and Pt. Gawler, which is approx 15 km from the office area. You will need to have your party individually complete an Indemnity form prior to entry. As the office is closed on weekends and public holidays, you will need to obtain a key for entry prior to the weekend concerned and return it the following Monday. If you wish to pursue this further, please phone me to organise forms etc.

Regards Kevin."

I am not entirely sure what we can see and photograph between St. Kilda and Port Gawler which is 15kms from the Office. What does everybody think :?:

I am willing to contact Kevin by phone to secure Indemnity forms for completion prior to entry (this may need to be completed by mid afternoon Friday in view Office closed on weekends), as well as collect and return key as requested for this coming Sunday.

Hmm, well not to put too fine a point on it Fozzie, I would think bugger all! I thought the place we were talking about was the evaporation ponds, next to the wetlands to the west of Port Wakefield Road! I don't fancy traipsing about lugging camera gear between St. Kilda and Port Gawler on a hot Sunday morning, that area is a dump at the best of times....

I'm thinking cold beers and lunch at the Irish pub on the cafe strip opposite the Botanic Gardens Nth Tce Entrance (I think it's a P J O'Briens), whaddya reckon?

Cheers

I know a guy who has taken some nice photos there. I have been meaning to check it out myself. As I understand there is a public bike track and no authorisation is required to visit. Maybe if someone is in the area they can confirm whether or not it is suitable?
