Plaza Imaging closes down

Postby BullcreekBob on Thu Nov 20, 2008 3:18 pm

G'day

One of the few "pro" camera shops in Perth has closed down. All retail stock has been moved to their city consumer store. All second hand stuff and ex rental gear is being auctioned in an online auction. Details are at http://www.auctionswest.com.au/index.html

Lots of Canon stuff (who cares?), a few older Nikon bodies; D1X, D2X, D2H, D80 and D200. Not much in the way of lenses although the AF-S 300mm f/4 ED could be of interest. No catalog yet but pictures of all lots are at http://www.auctionswest.com.au/gallery.php

I will be going down next week to inspect one of the printers but if anybody wants me to inspect any of the lenses or cameras I'll happily do so on a no obligation or liability basis. Just PM me.

The 200 f2.0 AF-s looks interesting enough.... Along with a few other things. Pity it seems pickup only and I live on the other side of the world...

For *nice* people, I would be happy to pick up, pack and post as long as I'm not out of pocket.

I may take you up on the offer, as long as I can include some money for beer. Packing up is thirsty work.

If i decide to bid on anything I will PM you in advance.

I'm probably most interested in the 2 backdrops and the 18-35.

I cares :)

Once the catalogue gioes up there are some lenses I might bid on, but trying to work out what is going on from blurry photos is frustrating. The 35/1.4 is nice, and the thing with the big white hood is intriguing but my eyes (or imagination) are not up to the task of working out what it is. There's a Canon macro twin light but I don't really shoot macro. So thanks for the pointer.

just reading the conditions...there is a 10% buyers fee which says "GST exclusive". what does that mean ? is the GST on top of that or does it mean that you dont pay GST on that extra 10% ?
there is also a reserve, not just max bid which means that 200/2 will not be had for a bargain i'm guessing.

The conditions are slightly ambiguous. Plus I think a buyers fee should be illegal, still they set the rules :(

The final price will be 21% more than the bid price, so yes, be careful when bidding. If you want to pay no more than $100 for an item, you'll need to bid no more than $82.50.

Catalogue is up!!! Login to view.

Most items have a reserve, so there wont be any 200f2.0 for $20..

Wow, so that would have left the other bidder with about 5 seconds to bid again !!

I was surprised at the prices achieved, generally a good result for the sellers, there was some bargains for sure but nothing sold at a price where the new buyer could say "You won't believe how little I paid for ....."

The shallow DOF is quite amazing. I can stand about 10m away and snipe candids with full head shots and get tiny DOF.... much like a shot with an 85 without getting in their face. I totally love this lens.

Reminds me of that REALLY nice Carl Zeiss 135mm f1.8 that I used on a Sony A200 a little while back (I would so buy a Sony if that was the standard kit lens!!)
