Lotus in Flower

Postby DebT on Tue Dec 30, 2008 1:04 pm

Hi,
the lotus are currently in flower at the Botanic Gardens and I recommend getting in quickly if you want to shoot them as the wind is ruining the petals and there are only a few buds left. The waterlillies are also in full bloom at the moment ..
Here are a couple of my happy snaps ... but I will be back there this aternoon if the cloud cover stays

They look good. It's a shame about the damage.

I keep thinking we should arrange an Adelaide macro meet...

Daniel,
Hi these were shot with 70-200 across the pond and you would get wet feet trying to get close and personal ... but I have a macro lense and think a meet's a great idea ...botanic gardens may be a good place, its central, free, and there are many tiny flowers out and plenty of interesting foliage ..there are usually ladybugs near the herb garden, and the butterflies are mating at the moment
So set something up and I'll attend if able

Cathy (chica) and I would be up for something as well. Don't have a macro lens yet, but am planning on getting one ... just trying to decide which .. Nikkor 105, Sigma 90, Nikon 150, Tamron 90 ... too many choices!

I know, I took some shots last year. There's only so far you can reach. :?

I think the botanic gardens might be the best venue. I've been there with the POTD crowd. But if anyone else has a better idea...?
I'm unsure when would be the best time to visit. In the past I've been in summer when everything is tired and burnt.
I'll post something in the ADL forum soon for ideas.

Great.
There are many options. I went with the Sigma 150 myself.
You don't actually need a macro lens to have fun in the gardens. Many lenses focus close enough to get some very nice shots. The lotus shot I linked to above was taken with the Nikkor 18-200VR.
