Hello again,

For those who like railway stations. I also photographed the tunnel behind me before I took this shot and incurred the displeasure of the station attendant. "Not allowed to do that"!

Excellent picture of a difficult subject. Just for your information, you are entitled to take photographs of any train you are travelling on or any railway station in NSW. Nobody can stop you...not the police or not even the station master. However you can be prevented from using a tripod as it may create a trip hazard for train travellers, (If you wish to use a tripod get permission from the station master). If someone tries to stop you taking photographs then ask them to contact the Minister for transport and make themselves aware of the appropriate legislation. Stand up for your rights but always be courteous.

Good shot and a very good advice. I always found taking photographs in these
locations a grey area. A policeman at our local club told us we can be prevented
by security from taking photographs in shopping centres as they are privately own.
I could understand not being allowed to take photographs of military installations,
but a railway station? What about mobile phones? I guess no one would care, but
if you use an SLR or the like, well then that's a different matter!

Matt, there are different rules in London, where this pic was taken.

You could be arrested (in London) for photographing in a tube station under the Anti Terrorism Laws

This is clearly Museum Station in Sydney. The Station Master's 'displeasure' might have been for a number of reasons other than just taking a photograph... Victor would need to elaborate on the circumstances. For example... was he moving beyond the safe area of the platform to take the shot of the tunnel? The Station Master would then have a duty of care to deal with that. And of course there might have been issues with other Customer safety if tripods etc were in play.

Of course if the simple act of photography was the issue then we are all at liberty to raise a complaint. There was a recent article about a member of the police in USA being stood down for threatening to arrest a photographer for nothing more than photographing them so the law (if not some peoples understanding) is still mostly sensible in this field.

Yes, it is the Museum station in Sydney and I may have been on the wrong side of the yellow line using the wall as a brace while I took the photo. The attendant did say it was a safety issue and I did not intend to mislead you on this. At the time I thought she over reacted but she was not officious about it and I had to accept she meant well (and was doing her job).

I do enjoy seeing pictures of Sydney underground and might make a project for myself on that subject sometime in the future. It would have to be B&W?
