Moving day

Postby gstark on Sun Jan 24, 2010 9:58 am

The time has come ....

My younger son, Michael, has needed to move out from where he's been living for the last seven years or so. Leigh has agreed to move in with him, and they've leased a house in Glebe, in Sydney's inner west.

As I write this, the removalists (big guys with big muscles) are here, carting a stream of boxes, crates, a bed, wardrobe ... you know the drill ... out of the Bondi apartment, and tonight Leigh will spend his first night in a home other than mine for the first time in just on 11 years, and really, for most of his life.

Things will be changing, and the next few weeks will be interesting. I'm both happy and sad, and I'm going to miss him, but of course he's not too far away, and he's always going to be welcome here.

I wish them both well in this major step in their lives, and I invite y'all to join me in wishing them the best for their ongoing future.

Gary, I am sure that both Leigh and Michael will be fine in their new abode in Glebe. I am sure Leigh will benefit from being able to access even more public transport, and as you have said yourself it is not too far away from yourself at Bondi.

good luck with the move!

This is a historic milestone!! Great work Leigh and condolences to Gary, but as already stated, he's not far away. He's flying the coup, spreading his wings and making a life of his own which is what it's all about. Leigh, post some pics of your new pad :)

Congrats Leigh!! Oh, and Gary, if Bel kicks me out one day I'll move to Bondi JUST to keep you company :)

Always a big moment... Gary, as I'm sure you're well aware it's a positive move and will only help to enhance the lives of all involved. Just remind him to call in from time to time.

It is a good move for most. I got it lucky and had everyone move out and leave me to rent the family home.

How much of your shared gear ended up moving out with leigh?

Gary,

Ive been out of the parent's place for nearly 10 years now. They arent exactly far away being they are still in the same suburb but i found almost from day 1 that my relationship with them changed for the better. It wasnt bad to begin with but it seemed as though they considered me more of an adult now and i in turn appreciated time spent with them a lot more.

Hope you experience the same.

Best of luck to everyone. I am sure there is a Starbucks somewhere in the inner west to keep Leigh caffeinated. :D

It's amazing how much stuff has been returned, actually. My Bronica, the FTn, and the CP 5700, with its battery grip, have all strangely materialised over the last few days. :)

Interesting comment, Jase. I like to think that Leigh and I have already been enjoying an adult relationship for quite a few years. I may be wrong - and I certainly don't profess to know Leigh's view on that either - but since we've been doing the radio show together, I've regarded that as a bonus, in terms of us being able to spend several hours together of real quality time, where we are interacting with one another over a live mike, plus any prep etc beforehand and, of course, post-show review. That time was very different from simply being together within the same place of abode.

I see this as taking a very different perspective for us as we move forward, and while we've planned for some changes in the way that we prepare for the show, such as arrangements for the delivery of audio files pre- and post- show, there will surely be other issues that we've not foreseen that we'll need to address.

All,

Thanks muchly for your comments and observations. They are greatly appreciated.
