Picture of the Week - 24 January 2006

Each week, one of the moderators or administrators selects an image that, for whatever reason, catches their eye. Please feel free to add your comments here. Vigorous discussion of the images and techniques is welcome and encouraged. Criticism of any mod for their choice is not. Please note that this is "Picture of the Week"; do not confuse that with "best picture of the week", which is a concept of which we have no understanding.

Picture of the Week - 24 January 2006

Postby the foto fanatic on Tue Jan 24, 2006 6:42 am

As a brand-new mod, this is my first selection of Picture of the Week.

Gosh, it was hard! The quality of images on this forum is outstanding. This week I pored through images from overseas, from right here in Australia, B&W pix, colour pix, photos from new members and old members too. And they were all fantastic. I honestly could have selected several images.

But the one I did select is the one below, from wendellt, from his Fred Bare series.

This may well be the first time a commercially commissioned image has been selected as PotW. It may well be the first fashion image selected as PotW.

I selected it because it leapt out at me the very first time I saw it, and despite looking at many other wonderful images, I kept coming back to this one. I like the way it was "built" as a concept, then a photo, then PP'd to become an outstanding image.

Congratulations to Wendell, who with this series and his Paris images, is showing himself to be a fine photographer indeed.

Awesome stuff! Screams proffessional!

Just one Q: how do you get around commercial issues shooting the SOH and SHB???

(not wanting to detract at all from this stunning image...)

This was covered in earlier threads, the Fred Bare company handled paying for shooting rights with OH and SHB, and other red tape...

Wendell
very inspiring photo. The PP treatment used, coupled with the gorgeous composition makes this work fantastically.

Congratulations on achieving such an amazing photo, as well as picking up POTW.
Images like this really bring this forum, & POTW, to a completely new level...

Well Done !

Thankyou very all
support here makes it all worth it, from what i can remember i chucked an absolute spack when it rained during the photoshoot, but in the end everyhting gelled together, point to the story, just keep pressing on regardless of the odds and obstacles you may somehow pull it off.

Mic just a quick summary of how i did it
took infra red shot, cleaned it up so it would look as polished as possible
then greyscaled it

took studio shot of model with strobe lighting, deep etched it carefully and superimposed that shot with the infra red shot.

While I'm not a fan of the images this series came out with (too commercial for me), this is a great shot and worthy of POTW.

Nice choice, Trevor.
