PotW 21 August 2007

Each week, one of the moderators or administrators selects an image that, for whatever reason, catches their eye. Please feel free to add your comments here. Vigorous discussion of the images and techniques is welcome and encouraged. Criticism of any mod for their choice is not. Please note that this is "Picture of the Week"; do not confuse that with "best picture of the week", which is a concept of which we have no understanding.

PotW 21 August 2007

Postby the foto fanatic on Tue Aug 21, 2007 11:12 am

"It was the best of times, it was the worst of times ...” wrote Charles Dickens at the start of "A Tale of Two Cities".

He was referring to the French Revolution, perhaps a slightly more serious topic than mine, which is merely the choice of PotW. But it does capture the dilemma I have – to look at a group of wonderful images and pick just one to be PotW.

There can be no complaints about the number of very fine works that were able to be viewed on these pages over the last week. I don’t think that I have had to pick from such a stellar group of entries before. My sincere congratulations to all photographers who have submitted images recently - some of them are of the highest quality and would not be out of place in galleries or magazines.

We have enjoyed outstanding landscapes, stunning portraits, fine–art nudes, b&w conversions, excellent nature shots, finely detailed macros, underwater shots, the latest in haute-couture, wedding pix and new and vintage car shots.

I wish I could award several PotWs, I really do. And I don’t like to provide a list of those that were in the final mix and not selected, because I don’t think it is fair to anyone who provided an image, including the winner.
One last thought before I provide the PotW details. Go to the “Image Views and Critiques” section and look back through the images that have been posted there in the last couple of weeks – I bet you’ll be impressed with the overall quality.

So, to the PotW for 21 August 2007. The image is from Oz_Beachside, and is a tasteful and artistic black and white nude. I particularly like the way the models pose is replicated in the black and white background and the sensuous curve of the ribbon. It’s a slightly different image to those we normally see here, and an example of a photographer who is improving his craft.

Once again, congratulations to everyone else. There are a number of wonderful images on our pages right now.

Bruce

Congrats. A wonderful, creative image. Great use of lines and curves and well converted to B & W too. Looks a bit uncomfortable for the model though.

I must admit that this kind of photography is not exactly my cup of tea. However even I liked this when I first saw it. The composition and lighting are excellent. Well done. :D

Bruce,

Congrats!

I think the selection of this image as PotW is not only deserving, it is a testament to the ongoing improvement of your photographic skills.

This image captures both the creative vision and technical mastery you have developed.

Well done, and thanks for sharing!
