POTW 14 February 2012

So, its that time of the week again and somehow, somewhere I agreed to select a picture. So after perusing the selection of images from the past week I narrowed my selection down to a shortlist and the analysed why I liked each one and why, what made me look twice, what made me go wow.

so firstly, a few that in my opinion that deserved a honourable mention;

Norwest's GG visit to the flood zone appealed to me not only on a helicopter level :) but also from a nice country newspaper journalist style, the longish lens and tight frames on the old couple really worked well for me. The shot with the old girl with the helmet on and the naval pilot adjusting it gave me a sense of stoic resilience and hit a chord. Nice stuff Norwest.

Pirostitch's Getting frozen (the second in the series gelled with me, it feels like a world away and the way the fog/mist accentuates the image and creates a feeling of almost minaturisation certainly made me stop for a second and have another look. If I was there I would be doing a sunrise, with my thermals on :rotfl2:

However the POTW for me was Mozzies Making the most of it. I think a image and photographer that can find creativity to make a frame from that garden and the the boring set of stepping stones gets my respect. Mozzie has used the tools at hand (herself ;) ) to add a key point of interest that is yet very intriguing but at the same time so subtle one could well miss it in the first pass. This image caused me to look twice, than look again with my face closer to the monitor. Well done Mozzie and its good to see some images from you.

Thanks for the mention and incidentally, the shot was taken at sunrise in the wee hours of Saturday morning.

Congrats on the POTW and good pick. I didn't notice the figure at first glance :)

Congratulations Mozzie. Well deserved.
And I am glad you chose the original BigG. I thought it worked better than the various reworks.
Mind you, without Suren pointing her out I am not sure I would have noticed the figure as I saw it on my little monitor.
Subtle and VERY well executed.

I had to look twice to see the figure waiting to jump out... Nice and subtle. :)

NIce to see a dark and moody image win POTW. The colours are lovely, like a Bill Henson print. Good choice Gerry.
