Picture of the Week - 17 May 2005

Postby Greg B on Mon May 16, 2005 11:03 pm

This week, some very nice work from xerubus.

Image

I like this a lot, really dynamic colour, a great idea well realised.

In some ways, it reminds me of the pop art photography that I
loved so much 20 or 30 years ago. (And that is a complement!!)

This one jumped out at me and screamed.....

Picture of the Week

Great work Mark.

wow, this is one of the best POTW i have seen, love the abstractness and the colours, great lines, repetition as components of composition...

this is a great art piece

Yup, this is a great shot Mark. I saw the second one that you posted, and loved it too, this one is a little more interesting though. Really really cool. Did you do much to those colours to make them shine in PS, or are they for the most part In-camera. I can't remember being so sublimely struck by color.

Like Greg, as soon as I saw this image, it simply screamed "pick me, pick me" at me.

Great use of colour, lighting, composition ... is there anytthing I've forgotten?

Damn that's good and even the horizon has a suggestive element. BTW I still have a bottle of champagne from the Bird man to give to Brisbane. Is this the glass we are going to use Xerebus?

Mark
It's curious...but when I first saw that image I plain didn't like it. I thought the colours were garish and the damn glass is not straight. But after seeing it everytime I log on it's kinda grown on me. It's got a personality of its own. Like a stray mutt that keeps licking your hand until you fall in love with it. Images don't normally affect me that way so there's something very special about it. But I'm damned if I know what.
Anyone else have the same reaction?
Regards

Nope. I liked it straight away. My hand did not need to be licked :D

I think the garishness (?) of the colours is at the heart of the appeal here, with composition right behind it.

But your comments - as always - are interesting Matt. I wouldn't have seen this one as a grower because it is so much what it is right from the first look.

I liked where this was going from the first posting, too. Mark took it all the way. Great idea and execution. Shows what you can do without spending a lot if you're creative.
