Something fishy going on here

Postby Matt. K on Sun Dec 14, 2014 9:40 pm

Just what is this guy up to? Check out his portfolio after reading the story. Incidentally, he is an Australian photographer...anyone heard of him?

The private collector, who purchased the $6.5 million “Phantom” in November 2014, also acquired Lik’s masterworks “Illusion” for $2.4 million and “Eternal Moods” for $1.1 million. With this incredible $10 million sale, Lik now holds four of the top 20 spots for most expensive photographs ever sold. He already has a position in the ranking with a previous $1 million sale of famed image, “One.”

PR stunt and nothing more I think.

Never heard of this guy on AIPP besides someone mentioning about his bronze prizes.

Given that you can buy prints on his site for US$950 why would anyone pay a thousand times more for the same stuff? The 'Phantom' photo appears to be a BW conversion of 'Ghost' http://www.lik.com/thework/canyons-arches/ghost.html

He has some reasonable photos on his site, but there also seems to be a lot of HDR tinkering going on in some images for my liking. I'm not against HDR but it shouldn't jump out of the photo at you IMHO. He's also a bit Ken Duncan with his saturation slider...

Incredible! It's not sour grapes but I wish someone would offer me between $1.1 and $6.5 millions for one of mine.

But wait, there is more...

IT seems the SMH also smells something fishy.
