Is my best option (with PS) for increasing files from a D70s to that size just a gradual percentage increase in length until 9000 pixels long? Using the 110% method that's almost 12 increments.

How severe could the colour cast be on a black and white image?

I have CS2. I enlarged 2 images by the 110-method and was fairly happy with the results. What is the better CS2 way though?

I got this offer and looked at it and thought "excellent" then read "new customers only" . Their prints are awesome - I've ordered metallic prints and lustre prints previously, and they are excellent quality.

Colour cast on a B&W image can actually be off, sometimes a bit blue... as it is processed using a colour process... not traditional B&W....

That's to be expected from a Lambda printing system as it is basically a digital colour darkroom. Then again, digital black & white conversions should be in colour anyway, so like all digital printing, make sure you've got the labs profile and a calibrated monitor.

Exactly... calibration is the key - if colour is imperative to you (as it is to me) get a Spyder, Gretag or some other colour calibration tool and get it matched... Then you'll be assured of consistent colour from screen to print....

Would you need to crop an image which is 1998 x 3024 before resizing it? Something about aspect ratio?

If so what am I best to crop my image to before resizing it?

Yes I did yesterday. Very nice prints indeed. Skin tones smooth and colour perfect. Transition into full blacks was gradual and smooth.

I have an A1 printer in the studio though!!!

Hey guys,

I gave this deal a go, and it came back within 3 days from uploading it.

The quality is excellent, and if i was to go for large prints, I'd definately go back to them. The picture below doesnt do it justice as so much light reflects off it from the ceiling.

bwhinnen - it took 2 days to get the reply email with instructions for calibration, profiles and upload procedure. I skipped the profile as I didn't think the colour concerned me too much if it deviated.. say 5%. Changed the format to adobe rgb and made it the correct size of 30x24" in PS.

Seems to be the way, I have a heap of info in an email, I'm going step by step Mainly picking the two images I want to test out And as I posted earlier 27Mb is a big image

When Leigh prepared my images he put a white border around it to allow for the size ratio. Great idea and I will probably leave the border when framed to seperate the image from the frame.

That's how we did it in Uni. White borders around images make it look like you've planned your images better.

I gave W00DY high res jpegs at level 8 as their document book indicated that's what they wanted for FTP's, and while their file upload system isn't FTP, I expect a similar sort of logic applied. That and no image can apparently go above 10mb or else charges may apply.

They need much better documentation, that's for sure. It's just really bad.

mine were both 28 meg each and no charges - u cant expect anything less if they were to call themselves a pro lab. i dont recall anything about fi;e size limits either... but they seemed strict on adobe rgb + correct image lengths which is fair, as they are printing for free and want as little prep time as possible.

that's what i did and got the 28meg odd file size. did u change the "width" to inches, as it might be in percent. u should keep the res at 300.

That sounds like you're saving it as a TIFF or PSD. You want a Jpeg.

Further CS1 doesn't quite have the bicubic technology to do a brilliant straight upsampling so zoom in on those pixels to make sure they're not showing up as softened squares.

Actual image size is okay. Now for what might seem like a bit of a newb question.....

If I view my image as 'print size' will this be how it appears (pixel wise) once printed? The reason I ask is that I have previously had images printed that would appear on the screen quiet large and clear, but come back pixelated in an A4 sized print from the printers. Is this something the print place does?
