Evening everyone :)

I can't believe the sun stayed out all day!! :) I missed sunset by a little bit, but I managed this:

D2X, 18-70
ISO100, F11, 30sec
Image

Does this image work? I like the reflection on the water.

Thanks
Paul

Paul,

It works very well, but it's not the reflection on the water that does it for me. It's the exposure, and you've nailed it on this one.

Look at the shadow detail in the wall ... deluverley!

I'd probably have shot with more sky and less water ... or vice versa - 'cos I prefer to not have the horizon split the middle, but that's just me.

Thanks everyone,

I had to pull up the shadows a little in Nikon Capture... I find that the D2X holds up very well in this department. Much more detail retained down in the dark than the D70.

I'm certainly finding it harder to get the exposure right with the D2X than the D70 though. Not sure why just yet. Probably just a different metering system/bias that I have to get used to.

As for showing off with the D2X... it's got nothing to do with me, it's all the camera :)

The proof is in the pudding.
You are nailing it with the DX2.
So - are you still carrying the D70, or is it gathering dust ?
What is it like to carry around, heavy!

Keep it up !

The D70 is just gathering dust at the moment.

A friend of mine was going to buy it but he's now saving up for a Leica digital I think (God knows why :))

I was planning to keep the D70 as a backup to the D2X for a couple of months until I learned the D2X... but I really don't think I'll be using it in that time.

It'll probably be on the market very soon.

Exquisite. I love the silky water, the detail in the shadows and the fantastic colours. 30 secs eh. Must give it a go.

Gorgeous image, I agree with gstark on the horizon (either needs to be up or down) but that shot is spectacular either way :)

Paul

I don't know how I let this little gem slip by me. This is a superlative example of the importance of exposure. You've picked the perfect composition and nailed the light to round it out, sunset or not.

Do I detect the apllication of a contrast mask worked through that beautiful image?

Probably not since I'm not quite sure what that means :) lol

There wasn't much PP done on this pic. I brought out the shadows a little using Shadow/Highlights, Adjusted the curve slightly. The version in this post was Before I played with it in LAB mode.

Paul

P.S. What is a contrast mask? :)
