Quotes of the day
Better stop short than fill to the brim. Oversharpen the blade, and the edge will soon blunt. Amass a store of gold and jade, and no one can protect it. Claim wealth and titles, and disaster will follow. Retire when the work is done. This is the way of heaven. ~ Tao Te Ching

I took the picture at the Gallery Of Modern Art (GOMA). This rear projection is part of the artwork of of the Icelandic-Danish artist Olafur Eliasson. Behind the large screen, wall size, different reflective and rotating objects are illuminated with beams of light and their light reflections on the screen produce phantasmagorical abstract shapes that move, merge and morph into other shapes. An allegory, perhaps, of the events and circumstances that shape our lives.

I took the picture of the Mediterranean Sea as the sun set in Gandia’s sandy beach in mid-December. It could have been in late spring or early Autumn, beautiful sunny weather, neither cold or hot. The miles long beach has sun loungers, umbrellas, bars, sports grounds, toilets, showers, and restaurants nearby.

First of all my apologies. I have been away on family business and unable to post these last weeks.

I took the picture of this handmade cake in Madrid, just before Christmas. The Kings cake is normally eaten in the feast of Epiphany (6th January, when Spanish children get their presents). The day celebrates the arrival of Three Wise Kings to adore Baby Jesus, and marks the end of Christmas. The cake itself dates back to the Roman feast of Saturnalia. The cake had a hidden bean inside and the person who found it was proclaimed king for the day. ...

The picture shows the driving wheels and motion components of a steam locomotive. The horizontal bar connecting the wheels is a coupling rod which transfers power from one driving wheel to the next. These components convert the linear motion of the piston into the rotational motion of the wheels. These parts are essential for the locomotive's movement along the railway tracks.

Korean barbecue is a popular method of grilling meat, typically beef, pork or chicken. Such dishes are often cooked on gas or charcoal grills which are built into the dining table itself. Some restaurants provide portable stoves for diners to use at their tables. The picture, taken in Jeju Island (South Korea), shows slices of pork with bean sprouts and kimchi, made with salted and fermented vegetables (often cabbage) and seasonings like (Korean chili powder), spring onions, garlic, and ginger. It is very much a social affair and it is customar ...

I took this picture in Teruel (Spain). The door belongs to Casa Ferrán, which was built in 1910 by the architect Pablo Monguió in beautiful Modernist style. This entrance tells people behind me live very rich and powerful people.

This main road and its side streets are known for their international and local shops, restaurants, bars, galleries, and specialty stores. Besides its excellent shops, Skolavordustigur Street is known for its unique appearance and cultural significance. A considerable portion of the pedestrian road is painted rainbow, making for stunning sightseeing. It is also called the Reykjavik Rainbow Street.

Fire escape (New York)

One of the first fire escapes of any type was invented in 18th-century England. It was a machine called a fire escape, which, being fastened to the window, would enable a person to descend to the street without injury. In the United States and Europe in the 1950s and 1960s, it became clear in the poorer areas of cities that fire escapes were commonly used for everything, but their intended purpose. Some residents placed items on the fire escape (chairs, bicycles or plants), which added weight and impeded emergency escape.

I took this picture at teamLab Planets, in Tokyo a few days ago. This digital museum comprises 4 large-scale artwork spaces and 2 gardens. Each space makes you immerse with other people in these massive artworks, the boundary between the body and the artwork dissolves, the boundaries between the self, others, and the world become something continuous, and we explore a new relationship without boundaries between ourselves and the world. From April 1, 2023 to March 31, 2024, teamLab Planets welcomed 2,504,264 visitors, earning it a Guinness World ...

I took this picture at the Queens Park in Toowoomba last Wednesday. Toowoomba is currently celebrating its Carnival of Flowers. The plant, like the cherry blossom, belongs to the genus ‘prunus’, but this is prunus persica or commonly known as flowering peach. It is well-suited to the Toowoomba region and is found in local gardens and streetscapes. These ornamental trees are known for their vibrant blossoms that appear in early spring, often before the leaves emerge.

This urinal and a few like it are on the first floor of the d’Arenberg Cube, the work started in 2014 and finished in 2017. The building has five stories and it is in the middle of vineyards. The exhibition rooms have bronze sculptures and artworks on loan from the Salvador Dali Universe in Switzerland, as well as from other artists.
