Went up the back today specifically to get a shot (or 2) of Dragonflys.

My patience was rewarded in the end (just before I ran out of beer)

Awesome and a very unusual capture. I love the way the dragonfly is causing the water shimmer.

I think it may have been laying eggs as it was pretty well going nuts (for a dragonfly)

Thanks BP.
The water in my dam is crystal clear which I think has contributed to the plant colours from under the water giving a different feel to the shot

Well composed (like the way you have framed the dragonfly with the concentric ripples, very effective together with the placement of the dragonfly in frame. The colours on the water echo those of the fly so creating balance. A bit more subject sharpness would have been handy but you can't have everything  Well done slider :)
cheers

Mark.

This is superb. The ripples are great and the OOF is spot on with that lovely sharp capture of the subject in the centre.

How many pics were discards to get this one. I ask this because macro is something I have no (current  ) lust for since they require sooooo much patience. If I'm taking a landscape shot I might take between 1 and 30 to get what I'm after, macros I reckon take heaps more.

The thing that stands out most for me is the perceived facial and bodily expression of the insect. What did you threaten it with? :D

Next of course is the brilliant composition and those ripples. The colour theme is great, too.

Cheers

beautiful work.....well done. Most certainly worthy of POTW.
This is a perfect demonstration that the photographer's skill is what really matters.....not which $2K lens you used

Perhaps an avatar change may be in order ???

I cant add anything other than what has already been said.

whilst not an analytical macro shot of a dragonfly you have crossed over between macrophotograhy and art to produce an outstanding capture.

very nice work.
