Images posted here should conform with the general forum guidelines. Image sizes should not exceed 950 pixels along the largest side (height or width) and typically no more than four images per post or thread.

Chinese New Year
The Chinese calendar has been in continuous use for centuries and predates the Gregorian calendar (see New Year’s Day). New Year’s Day in this calendar occurs on the day of the second new moon after the winter solstice (In 2033 it will occur on the day of the third new moon after the solstice) The celebration period begins on New Year’s Day and finishes with the lantern Festival on the fifteenth day of the month. The Chinese year is often referred to by the name of one of 12 animals. January 29 2006 to February 18 2007 is the Year of the Dog.

Great reportage Fab. You have managed to get some great perpectives to outline the event. I'm not sure about the conditions but had the conditions and opportunity been there in the last image perhaps a little selectively muted fill flash highlighting the priest to emphasise the gorgeous colours of his robes and to freeze his movement a little would have produced a stunning image against the backdrop of the fireworks. Still terrific effort

Some great pics. And posted straight after you got home  I'm just about to start PP on my 1026 shots. I really like the one of the most venerable with the fireworks. Also great are the one of the nun beating the gong and the shot with the most venerable and one of the monks bowing.

Great shots Fab, I'm glad to see yours and hear stubbsy has 1000 odd shots, I was very disappointed at missing this event. You've presented it well here, and captured some great moments.

That fireworks shot over the shoulder of the monk is spectacular! It adds a whole new dimension to the pic that would make it fairly ordinary if the person hadn't been there IMHO.
