I've rekindled my interest for street photography and tried a different approach. Would appreciate C&C on these:

Matt Matt Matt, is there anything you cannot do?? :)
These are intriguing, intense and mystifying...they have a particular 'feel'about them that I'm having trouble categorising. I think the 1st one is the favourite simply because of the unusal perspective and the beautiful light coming down the centre of the path. This person could be anyone, anywhere, with anything on his mind, where is he going, where has he been? Why has he stopped? What's he contemplating? Your style is unique mate and I always enjoy viewing your photos! Keep up the great work! :)

Matt I like the first and third for their simplicity. The second is too cluttered for my taste. :D

I love the first one Matt, but I'd probably crop out the bottom 10% and right 10% to remove some of the foreground and the pole on the right...

What colour treatment are you using on these? It's quite distinctive...
Cheers, John

Matt #1 by a mile - great composition and light and the washed out colour works exceptionally well. Also like the "story" of #2, but #3 does nothing for me (sorry).

Matt, I'll run with the majority here. Number 1 is the pick. I like the 2nd shot also with the guy watching the world pass by :D

love these shots...#1 and #2 are standouts
I wouldn't change the crop on #1 as it is the space that makes the shot and I think you got right first time, following leeks advice would put to much emphasis on the legs and unbalance the photo
to me the shot is more about the light on the paving than the legs
#2 is just great....

I agree with Mr Stubbs regarding the third not being a grabber, Matt. It's too snapshotty in comparison to to the real art of the first two. I like the light stream in the first one but I actually prefer the second - the colour treatment is really special and, for me, gives the shot an almost ageless appeal. If only the kid didn't have the baseball cap on..

Great work.

Thank you for all your comments guys.
I was just using the camera to look through and frame things up whilst I was waiting for sam to come out of a shop and stopped on this guys legs. The light was cool because there was a lot of shadow with this intense bit in the middle. When I took it I thought it was ok, but when I saw it full screen it really grabbed me.

Again, like Geoff says, I can't put my finger on what it is about these three images that I'm drawn to so much.

As for colour treatment John, I'm using my favourite at the moment - desaturation. I reduce the hue/sat down to about -60. I'm just really drawn to that colour theme at the moment.

Thanks again guys.

So are we Matt - even more so when it's matched it with the right shot, as you do so very well.

#1 has the hallmark of mystery even down to the cigarette butt(!) by his feet. One could weave stories about the purpose of his being there. I like, and would even like to see this pic in a ’near’ litho - not greyscale treatment.

#2 and #3 are quite honestly - ordinary, although there is nothing wrong with ordinary, it’s better than awful

Jaco, sorry Matt   Love #1 and #2(beautiful soulful mood) you have done well to capture the mood and social commentary. I think your sense of proportion composition and and exposure work together really well in both, I would, partly as leek suggested just crop/clone out the post in the top right hand corner to make the composition even stronger. Beauties Matt :)
cheers
