Altona pier before sunrise this moaning

G'day all,

Went for a cruise out to the Altona pier this morning, got up early and was there before 6am so I could catch it pre-sunrise as an experiment...

Went there the week-end before (as a recky) to check out whether it had lights etc and the compass direction etc for sunrise/sunset stuff etc...

After all that two of the bloody globes were out so I had to cheat and fake a couple of 'em (you should be able to pick 'em easily as you can see tell tale signs, it was a very lazy, sloppy attempt just for posting)...

Oh, also on the way back called in at the zoo and found a couple of D70 members haunting the animals there BLiase (dunno how it's spelt ) and Greg S (Waving from here guys!)... Always good to catch fellow DSLR members The guys were from Lismore (shitload k's from here) so it was good fun (where are those posts slackers!)..

Anyway, Altona pier using the 50/F1.8, manual, ISO200, F11, 4 second exposure


And check this out for a cure animal shot, don't it make ya go awwwww.... Couldn't resist on a portrait like this, had to throw in some vignette etc... 80-400 lens

Love both images Andrew great colour and sharpness in the second though I'd be tempted to crop it right in close(foreground and backgound don't add anything to the image in this case) to get the full effect of the relationship between the two.
I think the pier has great mood and atmosphere and superb lighting. However I feel it important that you straighten the horizon as it does impact adversely on the viewer, certainly this viewer

Thanks for the tip about the horizon... I was doing PP quickly and never even bloody noticed, doh! I should be using my spirit level doo-hickey thingamajig on the hotshoe...

Unfortunately not much of a sunrise this morning Dave due to the cloud cover RATS! There was some lightning but never caught it, that would have been cool to catch the lightning over the pier but not quick enough...

I'll have a peruse through what I got from the moaning's play and see if there's anything there... Wasn't much at the time though...

Oh, and had the bloody dust bunny from hell too! First frame I took it was in the middle of the frame and then every shot after that it was on the edge, the mirror must have thrown a fresh bunny around on the first frame. Damn! must have got in there last night when I changed lenses!

EDIT: Forgot to add... One quick blow-job from the rocket and she's clean as a whistle! Great device that thing, terrific... THANKS GREG/BIRDY!!!

Andrew great pics mate, they are fantastic and like them both, 10 point for getting up early as i am too slack to when i dont have to, but if i had somewhere like that i would be in it.
