My Weribee Zoo Shots

Postby NikonUser on Sat Feb 11, 2006 6:16 pm

There have been a couple of other posts recently showing off photos from the Weribee Zoo so I felt compelled...

I found it quite hard to keep 420mm steady out of the window of the safari bus!!

Comments welcome

How the hell did these go so long without anyone noticing them???

Great shots there Paul, especially the Zebra!

I like the frame treatment you've given them to - very professional :)

These are very strong images. You simplified and filled the frame. Good PP also. Thanks for posting.

Thanks guys...

I was actually wondering what was wrong with them since nobody posted :)

Can anyone tell me if it looks like the lioness is angry? She is only yawning but I thought it still looked pretty mean!!

I just wish there was no glass in the way as it dulled down the detail and sharpness of the shots.... an invisible force field would be better :)

The frame I've used is the one I use on almost all of my images. I find it works quite well for almost any subject. Kinda looks like a polaroid. Very simple to do as well. :)

Terrific images Paul. I think your animal portraits have real gharacter and definition. The lioness in profile imperial glance into space though I'd be tempted to crop the bottom off a little and remove the distracting sand pile in the foreground. I tried it and the image looks good as a sort of pano. Just a thought :) I also like the giraffe, with perhaps a little less of the sky above. The yawning lioness is also very impressive. Great images all the same Paul
cheers

Paul - I have to apologise as I had viewed the thread earlier but got distracted and hadn't posted a reply. So here it is now, beter late then never :)

#1 I like, Zebra is in a natural pose doing it's thing

#2 This shot doesn't work for me, the bright background and the slightly washed out face, stops this from being a better shot (I'd say the shooting conditions were very trying in this case).

#3 A Great little capture, while I like the next lion shot more, this one blurs the line between domesticated house cats and big cats

#4 This one is gorgeous and one of my favourites, love the DOF and the .. "I am mistress of all I survey" type feel. My only nit pick would be to maybe try cloning out the bright rock / ojbect in the left foreground.. (or just dulling it down a little).

#5 and #6 Capture the character of the respective animals well and are both good quality shots
