CH 9 News Helicopter (Img 160kb)The Channel 9 Newscopter was kind enough to fly past my lens this afternoon in Melbourne. I thought it was very kind of them to give me this special photographical experience free of charge and without ads.

Steve, you've stopped the motion of the helicopter nicely but just left enough blur on the rotors to see that they're moving. What was the exposure, about 1/1000 sec? I can't see the camera settings in your smugmug exif data.

Yay! We need more helicopter pics! This Squirrel is a French helicopter, so the blades spin backwards - look closely and you'll see!
I generally find air shots quite boring and like to see some ground features to make it interesting, however this one is quite ineresting because of the photographer. I agree a bit more rotor blur would be good but very hard to achieve while keeping the rest sharp. Here's a an example of a mate's Squirrel with a bit more rotor blur: ![]()
Nice work Steve. Any pics of airborne choppers that I have taken have always frozen the rotors which looks unnatural. Yours is just right.
