Please note that this is not an area for you to showcase your images, nor is this a place for you to show-off where you have been. This is an area for you to post images so that you may share with us a technique that you have mastered, or are trying to master. Forum rules
Please note that image critiquing is a matter of give and take: if you post images for critique, and you then expect to receive criticism, then it is also reasonable, fair and appropriate that, in return, you post your critique of the images of other members here as a matter of courtesy. So please do offer your critique of the images of others; your opinion is important, and will help everyone here enjoy their visit to far greater extent.

Also please note that, unless you state something to the contrary, other members might attempt to repost your image with their own post processing applied. We see this as an acceptable form of critique, but should you prefer that others not modify your work, this is perfectly ok, and you should state this, either within your post, or within your signature.

Images posted here should conform with the general forum guidelines. Image sizes should not exceed 950 pixels along the largest side (height or width) and typically no more than four images per post or thread.

Well its the first time i'm actually posting with more then one pic in the thread, so please be nice :)

Still learning with PP and photography in general (yes, i know i've been learning for the past year), but here goes:

Most were shot with a sigma 150mm (as i don't have a 70-200 yet :(), having that all day made me realise how much a macro lens shouldn't be used for fast action stuff, the AF is too slow! Couldn't catch any birds when we were watching the bird show (or it was probably my technique, chances are it was that).

C&C are always welcome.

I realise there was another taronga zoo thread earlier in the week, i just didn't want to hijact the OP's thread, so i created this one.

A zoo is a great place to develop an eye for animal stuff I reckon... And there a great place for a relaxing wander around...

The crocs in #1 are great, good detail, wow thought it was a nice short DOF, no wonder, 2.8...

The second one is having trouble with the lighting which is throwing fairly dark shadows in areas where you want detail... The EXIF says 1:30pm and looks like it was a bright sunny day so the exposure on animals in light and shadows on their face is really tricky... Makes you lose eye detail and stuff... The background is awkward, the trick with zoo shots (I think) is making them look as natural an environment as you can, but you take what you can get eh?

The seal is a bewdy, try cropping the top part off that's different to the water and it won't distract the viewer from the cute seal... :) Clipped his flipper but doesn't really matter as it's not a focal point... Oh, hang on, why not try cropping the top white background part off, AND the concrete footing at the bottom and make it more of a portrait?

Nice use of DOF in the flower shot, I'd maybe try a smidge of extra sharpening for the centre of the flower maybe? Great color... Try it with a much smaller aperture too and see what it comes up like, be a good experiment...

The last one, the waterfall shot is nice, the highlights in the foreground horizontal log are a smidge hot, and maybe the spot of light high up in the middle of the rock background maybe burn (darken) a smidge so it doesn't take your eye away from the waterfall and stuff maybe???

Enjoyed them :)
