When people ask what equipment I use - I tell them my eyes.
Wow! Upclose and personal! Are these full frame and where you handholding or monopod ?
If anything for me, these are a little too tight and close and I'd like to see the crop (composition) loosened a little.
i really like these composition wise.. just one thing.. try adding some contrast... they really pop quite nicely with about +18 is ps.
cheers http://www.markcrossphotography.com - A camera, glass, and some light.
Alpha7 - slightly cropped and using a monopod.
I was experimenting in just getting the facial expression of the Lions. I was no more than 4.0 metres from the subject.

#1 is fantastic, a great capture with the snarled expression and golden eyes.
Using the 300 + 1.4 TC, I'd imagine you were pretty far away from the subject, did the flash actually help at all? The only flash I have is pop-up so I'm pretty clueless here ![]() Edit: Just read your new post, that answered my question nicely ![]() So join in the chorus, and sing it one and all!
Aww, I want to pat him. He looks cute and cuddly in the second shot.
![]() I think I like the second shot better because there is a bit of background for the face to stand out against. Canon EOS 350D Tamron 18-200mm
Just what do you think you're doing Dave?
Love the closeness of these shots Fozzie. BTW is this fella from Monarto Zoo? Looks very familiar. And if so has he finally got his girls in the same enclosure with him.

I've got a camera, it's black. I've got some lens, they are black as well.
Mal - I do not know where he came from, although Monarto is a possibility. He is in the same cage as two females. All the Lions are in magnificant condition.

Sorry Fozzie should have been a little more specific. Did you take these shots at Monarto Zoo? From your reply I assume that you didn't ![]() Mal

Fozzie nice captures, I see the rain stayed away long enough for you to have some fun... The male lion has always been there, he is not the one from monarto.. As a side note, I found out where the black panther ended up - in the freezer, it died about 2 and half years ago and is being donated to a year 12 art student to disect for her art project..She is comparing the internal structure of the large cat to a human..doing the davinci type thing artwork.

Hey I really like the angle and moment of #1, even though the eyes are in shadow, there's still plenty of good eye detail...
If you wanna play with contrast with a curve or something just be careful not to lose detail in those gorgeous eyes... Maybe select the eyes, feather and invert the selection and then play with curves or levels? Good eye detail makes the shot here I reckon... Aka Andrew
