Like many of you, I've been enjoying trying to capture the awesome sunrises and sunsets that have been happening this time of year. I've attached a couple from the past month or so that I personally like, but would like to hear feedback from members. Ta.

great colours.

well done.

Jonas

As I scrolled through this I got to #1 and thought wow - beautifully exposed. The sunset AND you can make out the detail of the fisherman. Trouble is I then scrolled down and hit image #2 which was even more wow than #1 and by the time I got to #3 all I could think was "How good is image #2"

So #2 for me by a mile - great composition and exposure, nicely processed

#1 next for reasons already stated - it's great to see some detail in the fisherman without it distracting me from the awesome secene

#3 - in great company it suffers by comparison. The cliff on the right and, to a lesser extent, the foreground rocks are so dark and indistinct they dominate and unbalance the image for me. I'd have cropped a fair whack of the RHS just to the left of the slight overhangining part to remove all but a trace of the cliff and bring the eye back to the sunset.

Jonas,

You have some good work and composition here....I like #1 and #2 the most....would maybe prefer if #3 was not quite as dark but overall like the work

#1 is the clear winner in terms of perspective and colours (for me!), it's gorgeous.

#3 has a lot of potential, and I hope you don't mind these few suggestions! Try and get down to the ground a little lower, or point the camera down to take in more of the rocks and to take the horizon line out of the middle of the frame, giving a little more forground interest. The detail of the rocks can be brought out a little in post processing if you don't want to blow out the sky and expose for the rocks! A little foreground interest as well as the colours/clouds of the sunrise can make all the difference

#2 is beautiful, have you thought about cropping a little off the top and bottom to make it look more like a pano?

hi

great shots!!

but they all look like a bit over sharpen. i really love the light, i also like number two but i think it could be better with a crop as the just to centre the horizon.

thanks for sharing

Jonas, 3 excellent shots. I love them all.

Someone already mentioned about the lamp in the fisherman shot. Maybe just a crop to the right of the fisherman to take the lamp out?

A question though, a bit off topic, why are the sunsets and sunrises so good this time of year? We seem to be getting top sunsets/sunrises from all around Aus. Is it the angle of the sun or something?

Cheers
John

These are terrific...

#1, Just plain ol wow... Fantastic color, and a serene and calming relaxing image, good detail too. Agree with cloning out the lamp rather than cropping as a crop would push the fisherman too close to the edge I reckon... Amazing color, wow...

#2, Another beautiful relaxing image, subtle yet deep color. Maybe crop some off the top to raise the horizon in the frame and reduce the open space of the plain blue sky... Slightly pano crop I reckon...

#3, Hmmm, doesn't grab me like the first two. The rocks/foreground is too dark for me, that'd be a good candidate for merging two exposures I reckon to get some additional detail in your foreground subjects, the rocks... Horizon seems a smidge wonky too, but might be just me...

That first image with the fisherman is stunning...

Really love number one. Colours and exposure are fantastic.

...As for the nice sunsets at this time of year... I've been out the last three nights in a row and have been met each time with a wall of grey. Maybe the new D2X has a bad sensor that attracts sheets of cloud?

3 fantastic shots. :D
#1 is stunning.
#2 also a great shot, but I'd like to see it in a pano crop.
#3 I like stormy girls advice. Having already taken the photo some experimental cropping could only improve it.
