After a shoot for the local music zine I work for I saw some fire trucks down the stree (311A, 312A, 311L) and the area spare appliance, I went down to check it out to find out they were doing ICS training for one of the fire fighters doing a station officers course soon.

I was also surprised that the guys came up to me and said g'day using my first name and said I could go where I like, ( I must have done something right?)

anyway here is a pic Im still working on but I'd appreciate criticism.

get some prints and send them to the subjects.
Good b/w conversion.
Maybe burn in the highlight above the shoulder to match the rest of the b/g. And possibly the number plates (but thats what I would do).

Love the shot. Very earthy feel Michael. Naturally posed and lovely sharpness and exposure. Is the industrial bin part of the comradeship I imagine D200? How are youo finding it as you begin to use it more? Pleased you got it and not the D2x, especially at the prices now offered by Birdy

I know a few of the station officers on a first name basis from 11 so I usually email photos to them but I might see if they want prints for these ones.

EDIT: Marcotrov: I wieghed up a few things and I could have gotten the D2x but the D200 does everything I need it to do less the price of a D2x so there really isn't any competition between the 2 really the D200 is here to stay I feel the D2x would be a little overkill for me anyhow.

The D200 is going fine I seem to be falling into a niche with its functions now and im finally getting back into the swing of things but so far its been superb.

A terrific example of genuine mateship, good PP work too, the B&W really suits... Like the vignette too...

Not too dark for me, seems about right I reckon...

I like this for the reasons already stated.

The only drawback for me is the garbo? thingy on the right which is a little distracting but nonetheless this is a good shot.

BW works well here.

That is one awesome photo and is a brilliant example of what photography is all about. In that single slice of time there is a fantastic feel for the way these two guys get along and your PP brings an added strength to the shot that makes for an even better image.
