Got a thin skin? Then look elsewhere. Post a link to an image that you've made, and invite others to offer their critiques. Honesty is encouraged, but please be positive in your constructive criticism. Flaming and just plain nastiness will not be tolerated. Please note that this is not an area for you to showcase your images, nor is this a place for you to show-off where you have been. This is an area for you to post images so that you may share with us a technique that you have mastered, or are trying to master. Forum rules
Please note that image critiquing is a matter of give and take: if you post images for critique, and you then expect to receive criticism, then it is also reasonable, fair and appropriate that, in return, you post your critique of the images of other members here as a matter of courtesy. So please do offer your critique of the images of others; your opinion is important, and will help everyone here enjoy their visit to far greater extent.
Also please note that, unless you state something to the contrary, other members might attempt to repost your image with their own post processing applied. We see this as an acceptable form of critique, but should you prefer that others not modify your work, this is perfectly ok, and you should state this, either within your post, or within your signature.
Images posted here should conform with the general forum guidelines. Image sizes should not exceed 950 pixels along the largest side (height or width) and typically no more than four images per post or thread.
Please also ensure that you have a meaningful location included in your profile. Please refer to the FAQ for details of what "meaningful" is.

Hi All,
I went to former maximum security prison, Maitland Gaol, on a Uni excursion a little while ago, and I'm just going through some images now for an assignment and thought I'd share a few. Despite having been closed down a few years ago, Maitland Gaol is still a very good indication of what maximum security gaols are currently like in NSW, so it's a very interesting place to visit.
Our guide, a former inmate, even taught us how to strangle someone with single ply toilet paper, how to make a blade out of paddle pop sticks and cigarette butts, and how to boil water incide your cell, all for no extra charge!
More (including Ivan Milat's former home) can be seen here .
Below: These signs are placed on the back of each cell door.
A typical non-protection Cell.
Daily exercise yard for prisoners on protection.

Cheers,
macka a.k.a. Kris

interesting shots.
I went for a tour inside parramatta gaol, when they had an open day, in the brief period between being closed as max security and being reopened for weekend detention.
quite sobering.
I also did some work in one of the cellblocks at silverwater and found the difference quite amazing.

I went to school inside the Sydney Women's Gaol... Gaol's are interesting places.
Interesting pictures. I like the note at the end of the yellow sign after all of those HIV and blood warnings telling the person to "always engage in safer sex" complete with a condom character...
Will you PM me how to strangle someone with toilet paper? I'm curious as hell and Google gives me nothing!

Apparently this jail is haunted - they used to have night tours for people who thought they might see ghosts.

i'm surprised the inmates have access to injecign equipment and razor blades, as the sign states
surprised becuase it's a max security jail
couldn't these things be used to mount an escape?

If you believe hard enough you can probably see just about anything you want to. These stories probably come form the fact that once upon a time they used to hang people at Maitland. wendellt wrote:i'm surprised the inmates have access to injecign equipment and razor blades, as the sign states

Wendell, the reality is that just about anything can be and is smuggled into gaol, including drugs and injecting equipment.
