Natives @ Awabakal

Last Wednesday Col, André & I had a mini photo meet at Awabakal nature reserve near Redhead just south of Newcastle. The native wildflowers are very much in evidence and the shots below are a sampling from the day. All images were taken with the Nikkor 28-70 F2.8. Since this was a new lens I took the opportunity to test it through its focal range and to experiment with shallow DOF - hence a few of these are f2.8.

#1 (like the patterning ) and #2 are great Peter. It is a sharp lens where you have directed it to be. Colours also in #1 and #2 are vibrant (not sure what PPing you did ) #4 shows the effective depth of field range of this lens. Really has lovely OOF background here. #3 colour sat aside seems to be suffering in the cyan/magenta range colour fringing on left and right of gravellia? and cyan colour cast in background sky. One day this lens will be on my lens lust hit list

Thanks for the feedback Marco. You were correct re: #3. I've redone the PP and replaced it with a better colour balanced shot. As for the 28-70 - at it's current price it's a steal. Buy it

I'm not normally one for flower/plant shots, but the first is stunning, I love the lines taking me in... This is terrific... Mesmerising (sp?)...

I was wondering when you were going to show us some of those flower shots

First one is great, love the PP you did on #2, #3 shows how sharp the lens is in midrange and #4 shows it for wide open, wonderful.

I shouldn't look at the rest of your photos. I can't afford that lens right now, even at the good price that it is.

Peter - I hope you're going to get the first one printed on canvas and hung in your lounge - it's a ripper!

The others are pretty good too, but the first is a standout. Looks like the flowers are out in force, would like to see some shots showing the overall area too though - not just closeups!

Absolutely wonderful images Peter, as expected. I like all of them and they really show the lens/camera to advantage too. It was fun to join you and Andre on this little jaunt throught the heathland of coastal Newcastle amidst milliions of blooms. I am back from holidays now and will try to catch up and post some of my efforts from this day ASAP.

Hey Peter lovely shots as usual. I find the 2nd most interesting, the brightness and choice of PP in the colouring is good, the linked ver is colour corrected but I like your 1st choice.. In the 1st the lack of symmetry with the lighting, the right is too bright vs the left blows it for me. The dof is great thou! as usual I enjoyed what u had to show. Thanks for sharing!!
