Also please note that, unless you state something to the contrary, other members might attempt to repost your image with their own post processing applied. We see this as an acceptable form of critique, but should you prefer that others not modify your work, this is perfectly ok, and you should state this, either within your post, or within your signature.
Images posted here should conform with the general forum guidelines. Image sizes should not exceed 950 pixels along the largest side (height or width) and typically no more than four images per post or thread.
Please also ensure that you have a meaningful location included in your profile. Please refer to the FAQ for details of what "meaningful" is.

A couple of random shots - all taken with the D70 kit lens
This first one really stood out in its surroundings and caught my eye - it was in a bushy garden that was heavily shadowed in, except for a thin beam of sun that backlit the flower. This is pretty much straight out of the camera 
This little fella was happy to pose for me, although flew the coup when I tried to zoom with my feet at the 70mm end of the kit lens.
An ugly duckling in his younger years ?
Is the blown out white area on his lower neck too much ?
I was shooting in AP mode so I'll blame the camera for not choosing a fast enough shutter speed 
And one to make you feel sick, a shot of my car - F22 and zoomed in while exposing @ 1/40 in an attempt to create a motion effect.

The flower is the best one here.
Needs sharpening and contrast adjustment tho
Try the zoom effect at night with the car well-lit.

I didn't submit an expression of interest earlier because I didn't have anything that really fitted the theme but I'd be more than happy to enter it if you think it's up to scratch  If it's not too late just let me know what I need to do. Jay

#1 is a well spotted and well taken image. It's colourful, well lit and nicely framed. Sadly my answer to your question about #3 is that it is too blown (but see my sig block below  ). On my monitor the white of the neck also appears to have a slight cyan cast.

Right you are. I didn't notice it on my LCD at home but after checking it now on my work CRT I can see it.
Justin, you're right about more contrast. I had a play and it darkens down the background making the flowers stand out even more. Sharpening doesn't seem to have too much effect, although oversharpening just the stamens looks effective.
Considering I'm submitting the flower pic, do you think I should clone out the white out of focus flowers in the background ? Jay
