This is an area for you to post images so that you may share with us a technique that you have mastered, or are trying to master. Forum rules
Please note that image critiquing is a matter of give and take: if you post images for critique, and you then expect to receive criticism, then it is also reasonable, fair and appropriate that, in return, you post your critique of the images of other members here as a matter of courtesy. So please do offer your critique of the images of others; your opinion is important, and will help everyone here enjoy their visit to far greater extent.

Also please note that, unless you state something to the contrary, other members might attempt to repost your image with their own post processing applied. We see this as an acceptable form of critique, but should you prefer that others not modify your work, this is perfectly ok, and you should state this, either within your post, or within your signature.

Images posted here should conform with the general forum guidelines. Image sizes should not exceed 950 pixels along the largest side (height or width) and typically no more than four images per post or thread.

Comments, please. I think it is a little dark and lacks contrast, but if I lighten it up I get flaring on the lower part of the body.

Nice. I quite like it as it is. Looks almost like some 3-D graphics.

Nice shot but like you say lacks a bit of omph. Try a bit of curves adjustment rather than exposure

This is great :D Like Yi-P, knowing what the condition is like down in the aquarium (I assume that's where you took it) only makes one appreciate it more.

Thanks for the comments.

It's not an aquarium shot, so I can't use that as an excuse. However, I was at 12 m and the visibility was not great. The shark was close enough that the strobe provided some light, but I still had to try to balance for the available light for the background.

It was shot with the kit lens at 38 mm with minimal cropping (mostly top and bottom). Original just resized:

I haven't learnt to use curves yet, so this might be a project to learn.

In that case, I think you've done extreamly well.

Wonderful photo. You're braver than me getting that close to a Mako...

Nah, it's just a grey reef whaler and she's only small, probably not even 2m.

Is the modified image (first one posted) better than the original?

Does anybody know of a tutorial for curves for Paint Shop Pro?

To me the modified image is a good improvement over the original. The original seems lacking in contrast.

I should really stick to just talking about things that I know  I always assumed any shark with a long tail was a Mako. You learn something every day... :)

Yep, I reckon the modified image is a definite improvement on the original, but I can't help you with you tutorial request.

At Osprey Reef in the Coral Sea, nearly 200 km east of the Queensland coast.

Here is another shot:
