Taronga Zoo and the 300 VR f/2.8

Postby marc on Sun Apr 22, 2007 10:16 pm

Terminator and I took a visit to the Zoo on Friday to test my new 300 VR.
I had forgotten how many animals could only be viewed through glass/perspex and wire. :? Which made for some challenging photography.
We were rewarded with some good opportunities from the 4 Snow Leopards who were very co-operative that morning.
C&C most welcome

Cheers
Marc

Marc, the leopard shot is a beauty. The otter looks like he was behind glass, but still a great shot. Any bird shots with the 300?

Leopard shot is superb. Jumps out of the page. Great use of DOF and tack sharp.

Just a pity the light on the eyes isn't that great - not shining / glowing like they sometimes do.

The leopard shot is just incredible, looks like you could reach out and pat him, probably not wise :? I also really like the Ostrich shot, the lighting is great and it has such an aloof look to it.. the otto shot while good, is way below the stand of the other two, more a function of the environment then anything else.
Well Done!

The leopard shot is good but i really like the sharpness of the first one. Looks like you got yourself a good lense there.

Alll great shots Marc. That lens will be awesome for your trip later this year.

1 and 3 are tops. Second one I find the DOF just a bit too shallow. I would have like the eyes in focus as well.

Cheers,

André

Many thanks for all your positive comments. :)
In regards to the Otter, point taken in regards to shallow DOF, one of the problems in trying to shoot through thick glass perhaps :? I did like his whiskers however.

Cheers

Hi Marc, as soon as I posted that comment I thought someone will correct me and say the Ostrich is a bird. But IMHO whoever designed the Ostrich got it wrong big time and I think it's a pretty poor excuse for a bird. Mind you, I've never designed any animals so how can I comment.

But your shot is a great shot of what is "technically a bird". I recommend the bird show at 12 noon and 3pm I think each day if you get back there again. It would give the 300VR a great run for it's money.

Cheers
John
