Challenge 14 - comments and rejects (Agricultural)

Got a thin skin? Then look elsewhere. Post a link to an image that you've made, and invite others to offer their critiques. Honesty is encouraged, but please be positive in your constructive criticism. Flaming and just plain nastiness will not be tolerated. Please note that this is not an area for you to showcase your images, nor is this a place for you to show-off where you have been. This is an area for you to post images so that you may share with us a technique that you have mastered, or are trying to master. Typically, no more than about four images should be posted in any one post or thread, and the maximum size of any side of any image should not exceed 950 px.

Forum rules
Please note that image critiquing is a matter of give and take: if you post images for critique, and you then expect to receive criticism, then it is also reasonable, fair and appropriate that, in return, you post your critique of the images of other members here as a matter of courtesy. So please do offer your critique of the images of others; your opinion is important, and will help everyone here enjoy their visit to far greater extent.

Also please note that, unless you state something to the contrary, other members might attempt to repost your image with their own post processing applied. We see this as an acceptable form of critique, but should you prefer that others not modify your work, this is perfectly ok, and you should state this, either within your post, or within your signature.

Images posted here should conform with the general forum guidelines. Image sizes should not exceed 950 pixels along the largest side (height or width) and typically no more than four images per post or thread.

Please also ensure that you have a meaningful location included in your profile. Please refer to the FAQ for details of what "meaningful" is.

Challenge 14 - comments and rejects (Agricultural)

Postby Willy wombat on Mon May 07, 2007 11:45 pm

Guys - I noticed today that the comments either arent working in the C14 gallery or perhaps no-one has had a chance to give feedback on entries at this stage.

Here is my entry that ranked in a credible 10th place.
http://www.fototime.com/%7B7A181B42-7C1 ... icture.JPG

Feel free to make comment on it here if you like, as I like feedback.

I also was wondering if I made the right choice in terms of my entry. I had some other good shots and narrowed the field down to 5, but it was a hard decision on which one to go with for the competition.

Here are the 4 rejects for you also to comment on or pass over as you wish.

Cheers
Steve

Out of all of these I actually really like #3 as its a little arty and more subtle. I like the DOF used, and for me it holds my attention longer then the others.

As an aside I commented on every shot in I think it was the last challenge, but I seemed to be the only one, seems like everyone is out of practice or not motivated to comment, or perhaps just can't keep up as the Image Review and C&C section is so busy these days.

I like the first and third. Maybe a bit too much of a blowout on the calf's face, and maybe a bit too contrasty on shot #3.. but both are cool images.

I wasn't able to figure out how to add comments on C14, though I would have liked to (and I did appreciate your comment on my shot in C13, alpha!). I also wanted to post the 'making of' shot for my C14 but I wasn't sure how/where...

You can add comments??? How?
I can see where I can say "tell me when comments are added", but not how to actually make a comment.

For me, 2 & 3 here are winners. #2 talks about the state of agriculture in the current climate (no pun intended). #3 speaks of agriculture & like others I find the "artiness" elevates the picture

1 & 4, as well as your entry, are IMO just pictures of cows.
My initial thoughts for my entry ran to sheep, but I rejected all my attempts for the same reason. (Well... ALMOST the same  )

I do feel that the win was well deserved. It certainly had my No1 vote, though it was a close call. I nearly gave it to the eventual No2

I thought a number of the other entries were great photos, but they did not say "Agriculture" to me, so I felt I could not vote for them.

I'm with Greg on #s 2 and 3 here. Excellent images, but different interpretations of the theme.

#3 might have been a better image. There is something appealing about the farmer having to work for his animals.

Thanks for this - I was so torn on my decision. My GF conned me into posting the image I entered (not taking anything away from her photographic eye - though. She knows what she likes. I had #3 pegged as my entry.)
