My Latest Sunset Shoot! Thanks for checking these out........
My last post this week i promise......... ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Cheers Dan
one word, UNBELIEVABLE.
great photos, great exposure, great girls. How much PP was involved in the final photo? Thanks Fuji Finepix s9500>>>D70s 18-70 lens
You work with some easy on the eye subject material Dan.
The first two also look wonderful from my technical perspective. Steve (Nikon D200/D700)

Really, really nice stuff. The only one that causes me a little concern is the first one, I love the shot, I love the pose but I just fine to position of the sun and it's reflection a little off putting.
That's just my opinion and I can't fault anything about the others.
Nice stuff, but I have to say, shot three (the groups image) doesn't hold it for me. It feels a bit... cheesy... I don't think the girls pulled it off.
Others are nice though, some technique descriptions would be nice. Rob EOS30D || 50mm 1.8 Canon || 20-70mm 2.8 Sigma || 2 x Speedlites || Potatoshop

hey....the last shot i used a reflector and made it into like a cup shape and bounced the flash of it......there was a fair amount of shadow around (me/my assistant etc) so i just dodged the rest to make the light distribution more even.......
Other than that all SB800 flash...........bounced here there and everywhere.....lol Here was a very hard shot......trying in darkness to get light out there...the theme is suvivour type/girls washed up on shore after a party.....i didnt nail it ![]() ![]() Cheers
top pics as always. Not sure if the last one does it for me. The girls look like junkies crawling along looking for their next fix.
It must be hard work concentrating on the job at hand working with these girls! I'd have to get my mrs to sort me out before i went to work so that i could get some blood back in my brain.
I like 1, 2 & 4 (I don't care for the pose in 3) as I think this shows more of your camera and lighting work rather than PP stuff. I know or at least can imagine that there has been considerable PP stuff done, but these at least look reasonably natural.
The other thing, comparing No 3 (middle girl) to the other three pics is the pose. I have often found, with a lot of your photos, that the mouth pose (I am sure there is a technical, industry name for it ![]() Shots 1 & 2 capture great 'sultry' (I was trying to think of a more sophisticated word but couldn't) look and pose and No 4 has more of a moody, emotiveness to it that really suit. In summary - 1, 2, & 3 look simply more 'natural' whilst still looking very glamour by virtue of capture/pose/moderate PP. That's just my opinion anyway ![]() P Regards, Patrick
Two or three lights, any lens on a light-tight box are sufficient for the realisation of the most convincing image. Man Ray 1935. Our mug is smug
Thanks mate, great help..yeah alot of models have been taught/told at 'model school' (lol) that they should say something sexy begining with S at the time the shutter goes...its silly i know......i try to rein it in, but they cant help but do it..lol

What do you want to be as a photographer Dan?
These shots fit a specific genre, but is this where you want to head? This is the kind of photography where people will not tend to use words like 'art' in their description (they'll be guys staring at the bodies or girls feeling disgusted), but nevertheless there are many fun points about a career in this direction. I live quite close to a photographer that has made $40K for a single shot in this style (Inside Sport, Ralph or FHM cover). This seemed extreme to me, but tells me more than just the fiscal amount. He is living to be bigger and better than his peers. He is my elder but had no trouble dropping dollar amounts. Is this a man that is comfortable with where he is? Be careful what you wish for - you might work hard on your skills to get there and wish you had targeted somewhere else. I struggle to find somewhere to aim but am trying to find something fulfilling as I'm sure everyone is. This kind of photography definitely gets people talking around here, look at your last two image posts! HB
yeah Heath its a damn good question, i faced the same question from a good friend today......i think i would like to shoot these kind of shoots for fun more than anything, i dont make jack from them, most models dont have two cents to rub together......and make money in weddings/real estate and fashion all of which are starting to bite for me now...
I love the images. Certainly very well done.
One suggestion/idea is how about gelling the strobe(s) to warm up the light from them to match the light from the setting sun? Or was the whole point to make it a different temp?
Thats a great idea thanks mate.....i must say i was looking for a contrast....but i will do that next time........
\ No such thing as too much Strobist, just not enough Stobist. The last pick you posted Dan, reminds me of Lost, pretty girls on a beach all fighting over the last suitcase of designer clothes... ![]()
