These are some photos of the chair I am working on at the moment. I have spent the last two days carving the seat.
The photos are intended as a record of the work in progress, but as it is a shared workshop, I cannot control lighting; a mixture of fluoro (random phosphors), filtered daylight & tungsten; or in most cases, backgrounds. These tend to be busy, often in the extreme. Also, my focus while in the workshop must be woodwork, not photography, So I cannot spend a lot of time on setting up the shots.
What I have tried here is to bring the subject into relief by increasing contrast and darkening the shadows. Has it worked? Any other suggestions?

I like the altered shots.
I am more interested in the chair to be though. What timber are you using?

It is going to be a continuous arm Windsor.
When finished, it will look similar to

Howard's other chairs are worth a look too.
The seat is camphor laurel. Hunched over that for two days, adzing, carving, sanding is not a lot of fun.
The back bow will be Claret Ash as that bends quite well when green.
The legs, spindles etc. will be White Mountain Ash
I am undecided about the finish. I prefer natural, but tradition is either walnut staining (English) or milk paint (American). I guess I will see how it looks complete, then decide.
The finished chair will probably be on display at the Sydney Working with Wood Show in June on the ANU School of Art stand. Greg

I think your workshop shots could use a little more exposure, they appear a bit dark and dull. Maybe some gentle curves treatment can improve them.
Wow! I like that Smokers Bow! Can you buy those chairs off the site?

Yes, but not directly. He makes to order only, and he is fairly heavily committed at the moment.
Howard lives in a fairly remote part of NSW, and does not have all the modern conveniences we take for granted. For example, he uses no power tools in his making. Even his lathe is foot operated.
I will be seeing him on Monday though. If you like, I can pass on your details. (PM me) Alternatively, he will be at the Sydney, Newcastle and Canberra Working with Wood shows if you want to talk to him in person.
Or I could make one for you, but I will take a while. I am trying to finish my course.
A better (IMO) alternative is to make one yourself. He runs courses to help you through the making. That way, the chair will be truly yours. Greg
