a little more street.../ candid portraits

Got a thin skin? Then look elsewhere. Post a link to an image that you've made, and invite others to offer their critiques. Honesty is encouraged, but please be positive in your constructive criticism. Flaming and just plain nastiness will not be tolerated. Please note that this is not an area for you to showcase your images, nor is this a place for you to show-off where you have been. This is an area for you to post images so that you may share with us a technique that you have mastered, or are trying to master. Typically, no more than about four images should be posted in any one post or thread, and the maximum size of any side of any image should not exceed 950 px.

Forum rules
Please note that image critiquing is a matter of give and take: if you post images for critique, and you then expect to receive criticism, then it is also reasonable, fair and appropriate that, in return, you post your critique of the images of other members here as a matter of courtesy. So please do offer your critique of the images of others; your opinion is important, and will help everyone here enjoy their visit to far greater extent.

Also please note that, unless you state something to the contrary, other members might attempt to repost your image with their own post processing applied. We see this as an acceptable form of critique, but should you prefer that others not modify your work, this is perfectly ok, and you should state this, either within your post, or within your signature.

Images posted here should conform with the general forum guidelines. Image sizes should not exceed 950 pixels along the largest side (height or width) and typically no more than four images per post or thread.

Please also ensure that you have a meaningful location included in your profile. Please refer to the FAQ for details of what "meaningful" is.

In the city yesterday with some time to kill, so I tried out my new lens ~ 200mm f2.8

~ no cropping or PPing pretty much straight from the camera...

some tighter cropping on 1&2 would probably make them more appealing.
I do like candid shots, well done :)

First one looks like Little red riding hood on her way to Grandma's, so therefore the guy must be the BIG BAD Wolf. Also I like the expression of the girl in two. I will have to try a few candid's, they look like fun and seem to tell a story with each shot

IN the second shot, your motives are obvious - you were really scoping out the Chubb security van in the background - don't hide behind this "candid street" photography rubbish - you are like all those people who shoot photos in public! A menace to society!

(sorry, just having a laugh - cool candids).

I really like the second one but it would be better without the two people in the background who are nearly in focus. Being a candid you don't have much control over this. :(

The third one is good too, she looks like she has the weight of the world on her... either that or she's daydreaming about a date tonight.

The profile of the Senior Gentleman is my favourite, love the out of focus background.

#3 and #4 for me. Very expressive and both tell great stories.

I like #1 as well but to me it looks like the focus is on the wall behind them, with the subjects a tad OOF. I suspect viewed bigger this would be more obvious and take away the impact of the shot.

Nice work. I like candids but as yet haven't been game to shoot randoms in the city myself. Guess that's one to be avoided during the APEC summit...

Thanks all for the kind words, much appreciated.

The tight portrait of the well dressed elderly gentleman, was a lucky shot, only just got the camera to eye and released the shutter in a split second, turned out to be the beat of the day, though I do like the shot of the Asian couple, she was very animated in her discussion.
