Egret captures from todayManaged to get close enough to this Egret to have no need for the T/C after stalking it for a while.

Re: Egret captures from todayHi Bob,
All beautiful shots but they appear over sharpened to me. Geoff

Not sure what you're picking up on their Geoff. These were cracking sharp out of camera and had a modest amount of USM in the trial version of capture NX. I'll be interested if any one else sees whatever it is that's got your attention. Bob

Re: Egret captures from todayjust looks sharp to me.
perhaps its the sharp contrast between foreground/ background colour that threw Geoff off. EM1 l 7.5 l 12-40 l 14 l 17 l 25 l 45 l 60 l 75 l AW1 l V3
Re: Egret captures from todayIn the first two images around the bird's top of head I see some slight halo effect, which is often (I think) an effect of over sharpening.

Actually, these are just over the edge. Check out some of the reeds: bottom lh corner of #2. There is very minor haloing there, along the lower edge of the reed that is sticking up. Same image, along the back of the subject, again there is very minor haloing evident. Lower edge of the reeds on the rh side in #3 as well. Underside of the beak in #4. I'm tending to think that the exposure could also perhaps be pulled back by about a half stop: there are more details in the feathers that I suspect could be brought out. g.

Re: Egret captures from todayFair enough Gary i see that now
My eyes arent what they used to be Still they are very nice shots in my opinion and as i chase Egrets i know they are not an easy subject to capture well as they have been in both posts Nikon boy Norman
Re: Egret captures from today
As I said, these are just over the edge. Just, but definitely over. ![]()
I'm not disagreeing. I'd like to see the sharpening pulled back a nudge, and a minor exposure adjustment to bring out that extra bit of detail in the feathers, and then (IMHO) we'd move from very nice into the realm of .... g.
