Weird circles in image??? ...........Any ideas?

Got a thin skin? Then look elsewhere. Post a link to an image that you've made, and invite others to offer their critiques. Honesty is encouraged, but please be positive in your constructive criticism. Flaming and just plain nastiness will not be tolerated. Please note that this is not an area for you to showcase your images, nor is this a place for you to show-off where you have been. This is an area for you to post images so that you may share with us a technique that you have mastered, or are trying to master. Typically, no more than about four images should be posted in any one post or thread, and the maximum size of any side of any image should not exceed 950 px.

Please note that image critiquing is a matter of give and take: if you post images for critique, and you then expect to receive criticism, then it is also reasonable, fair and appropriate that, in return, you post your critique of the images of other members here as a matter of courtesy. So please do offer your critique of the images of others; your opinion is important, and will help everyone here enjoy their visit to far greater extent.

Also please note that, unless you state something to the contrary, other members might attempt to repost your image with their own post processing applied. We see this as an acceptable form of critique, but should you prefer that others not modify your work, this is perfectly ok, and you should state this, either within your post, or within your signature.

Images posted here should conform with the general forum guidelines. Image sizes should not exceed 950 pixels along the largest side (height or width) and typically no more than four images per post or thread.

Weird circles in image??? ...........Any ideas?

Postby marc on Sun Jun 15, 2008 5:26 pm

Can anyone explain the unusual circles on the right hand side of this image?
I doubt whether it's come from the 200-400 or light refraction? I've only noticed it when PP my images.
Perhaps it's just smoke circles from the plane?
Any ideas?

Great capture! Do these circles appear in other photos taken with the same lens?

I think it's some weird creature from another dimension.

Tilt your head to the right, and then have another look ... you'll see that there are two bright white circles, and there's also a lighter, and larger, circle around the uppermost of these two. Not so much a full circle, but an arc .... that's the left eye of the creature.

Now, look down (with your head tilted, that's towards the lh side of the image) and you'll see a darker splotch below and to the right of the eye - that's the nose. Below that, and to your left, you should now be able to see the creature's mouth .... sort of like a fox's or canine mouth.

I don't know what is sadder, the fact that you saw that Gary or the fact that I can now see it after reading your description only once!

I dunno Mark, they are very bright, how prominant are they in the un-edited one?

Smoke rings, like a filthy smoker can sometimes blow. Due to air flow and turbulence. I doubt there is anything wrong with your lens. There is something wrong with Gary's mind though.

Yeah just smoke ring blown out the exhaust, engine probably had a burp when it went inverted.
