A few more steel birds

Got a thin skin? Then look elsewhere. Post a link to an image that you've made, and invite others to offer their critiques. Honesty is encouraged, but please be positive in your constructive criticism. Flaming and just plain nastiness will not be tolerated. Please note that this is not an area for you to showcase your images, nor is this a place for you to show-off where you have been. This is an area for you to post images so that you may share with us a technique that you have mastered, or are trying to master. Typically, no more than about four images should be posted in any one post or thread, and the maximum size of any side of any image should not exceed 950 px.

Please note that image critiquing is a matter of give and take: if you post images for critique, and you then expect to receive criticism, then it is also reasonable, fair and appropriate that, in return, you post your critique of the images of other members here as a matter of courtesy. So please do offer your critique of the images of others; your opinion is important, and will help everyone here enjoy their visit to far greater extent.

Also please note that, unless you state something to the contrary, other members might attempt to repost your image with their own post processing applied. We see this as an acceptable form of critique, but should you prefer that others not modify your work, this is perfectly ok, and you should state this, either within your post, or within your signature.

Images posted here should conform with the general forum guidelines. Image sizes should not exceed 950 pixels along the largest side (height or width) and typically no more than four images per post or thread.

Please also ensure that you have a meaningful location included in your profile. Please refer to the FAQ for details of what "meaningful" is.

A few more steel birds

I have barely touched my camera in recent weeks but just happened to have the rather large 100-400ii lens with me earlier this week. A majestic A380 (London bound QF1 I think) was soaring over our heads near Cronulla beach. Then yesterday I was waiting to visit an aged relative near Newcastle, so the RAAF base at Williamtown was a good place to visit.

I'm really impressed with the quality of that lens. Those pics are have superb definition and pop right off that blues sky.

aww c'mon man.. they are not steel! :) aluminum and titanium :)

No point in waiting for a airshow huh :) I have always meant to stop at willie for a look:) I like the second A380 image, nice angle. I also like the close up on the FA-18. The last two have pretty crazy banding tho, or is that just my end ? I looked on the flickr versions and it seems to be there ?

Fred Miranda has this lens rated as 10/10, it's that good. Very difficult to take a bad picture with a lens this good. Mind you, it's not cheap, but then again it's not losing much value either.

Al-clad actually. And yes, I once was an airframe apprentice at Hawker Dehavilland at Bankstown after I left school.

I actually like the first A380 shot best. If only it was turning towards me and not away.

Yes there's crazy banding indeed. Not sure if it's a Flickr thing or my processing. It's definitely not there in the original jpeg.

well technically its 2024-T3 aluminium and some is clad and some is not ;) and truth be know that very large bird is mostly plastic :)
apprentice at Bankstown Beach huh :) back in teh hey day I reckon - ya learn something new everyday :)

I still have some solid rivet samples from my apprenticeship days. Pretty good work if I may say...
