BELGIAN PORTRAITS

Got a thin skin? Then look elsewhere. Post a link to an image that you've made, and invite others to offer their critiques. Honesty is encouraged, but please be positive in your constructive criticism. Flaming and just plain nastiness will not be tolerated. Please note that this is not an area for you to showcase your images, nor is this a place for you to show-off where you have been. This is an area for you to post images so that you may share with us a technique that you have mastered, or are trying to master. Typically, no more than about four images should be posted in any one post or thread, and the maximum size of any side of any image should not exceed 950 px.

Forum rules
Please note that image critiquing is a matter of give and take: if you post images for critique, and you then expect to receive criticism, then it is also reasonable, fair and appropriate that, in return, you post your critique of the images of other members here as a matter of courtesy. So please do offer your critique of the images of others; your opinion is important, and will help everyone here enjoy their visit to far greater extent.

Also please note that, unless you state something to the contrary, other members might attempt to repost your image with their own post processing applied. We see this as an acceptable form of critique, but should you prefer that others not modify your work, this is perfectly ok, and you should state this, either within your post, or within your signature.

Images posted here should conform with the general forum guidelines. Image sizes should not exceed 950 pixels along the largest side (height or width) and typically no more than four images per post or thread.

Please also ensure that you have a meaningful location included in your profile. Please refer to the FAQ for details of what "meaningful" is.

Jaco
Superb images on your website. Yo consistently produce quality images and clearly can translate the images in your 'mind's eye' into well composed and exposed images of great substance that demand the viewers attention.

Jaco,

I have but one word for these latest images.

YES!

Thank you for this; these are much better, and much more in keeping with the work I know you're capable of.

Now, if we just learn to bend some rules. :)

Jaco,

I certainly enjoyed you Poland photo's and infact checked out a few other galleries, I really enjoy your photo's but at the moment I'm working around the clock to a strict deadline (tomorrow morning when I fly out at 9am) so I don't always get to reply.

Had a quick glance at your new portraits too, they look great I'll have a more relax look once I'm back in the country :) But please keep sharing!

Jaco,

I have come to expect this kind of excellence from you. Yes, there are a couple of little glitches at points, but nothing worth whining about in context with the full body of the work.

Cheers,

Jaco,

The greatest achievement of a picture, in my estimation, is to prompt thought, contemplation or meditation. Your Crown Of Thorns shot has done just that and I have pondered all through my breakfast pot of coffee why it is that we generally see stigmata represented on the hands and not across the brow as you have illustrated here. I keep coming to the conclusion that cowardice might have something to do with it - marking the hands is okay but marking the face is further than folk will go.

Cheers and thanks,

Jaco, once again a really enjoyable selection of images. I for one have a lot to learn about portraits, but your images show what can be achieved. I thank you for that.

A question: Do you do much post processing or are your images straight out of the camera?

Hello John

As usual, just a little touch of post processing...
Smart Sharpen and, some times to times, I'm using of a "Velvia Action" under Photoshop.

Best regards
