Bushfires in the Gap area.

As most of you know there were some large fires in the
Gap/Keppera/Mitchelton/Ennogera areas. Here's a couple of happy snaps
from last night. Unfortunately the best shots to get were in the
middle of the day and I couldn't get up there due to work.

Excuse the dodgy shots of the helitak 668 and 671, I stuffed up... ;-)

ICC is still setup there this morning, and many pumps and other
vehicles are performing recon of the area to plot todays attack.
Strong winds and high temperatures are expected tomorrow and this
evening.

Interesting shots, Mark. Some of those are quite dramatic. :)

Very evocative images, Mark.

I used to live less than 1km from Settlement Rd where those fires were raging. The whole area through to Mt Coot-tha is very leafy and fires there have the potential to cause significant losses to property.

The firies did a super job preventing that.

Hope you haven't singed your eyebrows.

:) yes... very hot... the air temperature was absolutely amazing. there was a relative humidity of below 10%, coupled with a mid 30s shade temp and a lot of thick smoke....

the only down side of taking the sort of shots i do is that your camera gear always smells of either bushfires or other burnt materials... but hey.. someone's got to do it.. :D

cheers

Wow, frightening stuff, makes one realise just what a tough and dangerous job the fire-fighters have...
