Just another couple of shots taken at my favourite camp spot in the Cape of Carpentaria Gulf country. Would appreciate any comments.

that flower shot is cool :) pity about the flowers (?) in the background - don't know whether you'd get away with cloning them out, but they are a bit distracting. Perhaps a crop would do the job as well :)

The portrait, as well, could do with a little crop at the bottom. The markings on the log distract me - I want to know what they are, rather than looking at the real subject! Nice work though, the colour in the sky makes this, and the warmth in the skin colouring gives the feel of a campfire.

Marco. The colours in that second pic are exquisite - all those great purple shadings complement the white really well. I'm with Leon on the distracting OOF flowers. My solution would be to crop the top to make this a wide pano style shot. This would also draw the eye more strongly to the image of the flower on the left.

Hi Marco,

great shots and the first one is probably of special value to you.
Who is the person ?
Is the animal in the first shot a piglet or wombat ?
Also as already was suggested, try a tighter crop.

HTH,

Cheers,
CD

Thanks for the comments guys. Sheepie, Peter and Christian, I have actually cropped out the distractions with the flower and have it hanging on my wall. You are right also about the portrait. I was actually about to clone out or crop out the shag droppings but decided to leave as original. I will try to do a pano to crop out the distractions and repost for your opinion. I wanted to post the original of this shot also. It really helps me to evaluate my critique of my own work when I have your experienced opinions. Christian the photo is one of my Nephew and his little piglet, Blanco.
I have a couple of others I will post for your valued opinions.

Thank you
marco

Good to hear - too many people forget about getting these things printed now we have digital. Many a great pic goes unprinted now, which is a pity - these things deserve to have a physical presence, and be put on display!

Sorry to interrupt this, have you shoot these pics from a Canon? I know you have the Nikon d70s, coz this thread is in the Canon coral.

If yes, pls. accept my apologies & disregard my post

No I didn't intend them to be in the canon corral birddog. I certainly shoot Nikon. Mind you not that there is anything wrong with canon. Both excellent systems!
Don't know how it got there. Sorry, probably my fault somehow.

Now I remember. I was browsing the topics on main page and i think i went to a canon topic either 5D or the review of 1Ds Mark11 and clicked on new post from there. That must be it! Apologies to all.
cheers
