Images from the Shrine (3 img)

A friend & I went for a trip to the Shrine of Rememberance earlier today and of course, I just happened to have my camera with me. It was a bit windy, but the sun was out so was quite pleasant.

Here are a few "non-shrine" photos from our adventure:

Nice shots! I like the concept of #1 but I think it would of been better with a little more DOF, I would of rather worked out Lest We Forget myself rather then rely on the title.

#2 I really like this shot, good DOF and a pleasent bokeh, I've been shooting a few different bronze statues I find they make interesting subjects.

Shot 3 is nicely composed and the colour is great, I think I've seen so many awesome flower photo's of late I've been desensitised.

thanks Craig. Perhaps my view of no. 1 was a bit to surreal. I wanted the writing to vanish into to distance to give the illusion that people are forgetting....perhaps I should have used a touch more

Dave

Now I've read your 2nd post the first shot makes more sense. I think it's a brilliant idea, but ideally ( ) the DOF would be such that just the "forget" was OOF. Would have been much punchier.

#2 - great. The OOF backrgound in similar tones works well too. Did you also take a shot from in front?

#3 - something about this isn't right and I can't quite put my finger on it. When I first saw the pic all that came into my head was "Are those real or fake poppies?" which suggest the image didn't grab me enough as a picture at a visceral level. Maybe it's the framing or maybe it's too busy, or maybe I've just seen too many flower pics lately, or maybe my head is about to explooooode

Quite right Stubbsy. Next time I get back to the Shrine I will keep this in mind and revisit this image again.

no...but I wish I had of. This was the last photo I took before we left and almost didn't capture it, but hit the shutter button anyway. I'm glad i did  Maybe on my next visit I might look to have the Shrine less OOF in the b/ground, with the statues looking towards it.

There have been quite a number of flower pics recently, so perhaps you too have become desensitized ? I wasn't completely happy with this shot, but it was one of the better ones. The wind was a bit too strong to take any decent macro shots of flowers. Sometimes I feel I have a hard time capturing red things with the D70. I know the sensor is highly sensitive to red....perhaps this is what is making the image look fake ? I dialled down the red channel in PP, but it still looks oversaturated somewhat.

The learning process continues
