I've been having a Leigh moment tonight and done some extreme black and white treatments on three pics from an outing at the weekend accompanied by Mr & Mrs birddog and, curiously, Leigh. I'd be curious to know what you think.

OOh, Peter - I like.
I love the dirbiker - the camera angle really adds to the scene. Lovely graphic feel to it. Nice sense of movement too.

The tryre tracks are great as well. I love the overesposed look tot he sky - has a kind of apocalyptic feel to it. Very nice.

Although I like number 3 it isn't as striking as the first two BUT, I do prefer it in black and white.

Yes! #1 is excellent! The added contrast is striking. I love #2 as well, very well done.

#3 is very good too. I like the different effects, tones & textures of the water, from the glassy water on the beach, to the coarse and coarser textures in the "layers" of the water.

Glad you kept at it Peter, I think for me #3 is my favourite.

For me number #1 is very apocalyptical (or is it post-apocalyptical) and to a less extent number two fits into it as well with a little Mad Max throw-in. Um, to explain myself a little better, I think the "bleached" stark white, the grainy sand all help build this post-nuclear end of the world type feeling.

Thanks for your comments. It's interesting how different images get such a different feel when PP'd. Images #1 and #2 were almost identically processed (used the Nik Color Efex Dynamic contrast B & W filter) yet #2 has a really lovely softness to it whereas #1 has that apocalyptic feel.

Number three is fantastic,
The other two I am not a big fan of.

but that last one is almost going to be my new desktop background my current one is a pic of hurricane katrina...

All three are good Peter but for me the standout is #1. Excellent.

Thanks Carlo & Bob. I find the way different pics appeal to different people fascinating and these three are probably an excellent example of that.

I agree, I find it most interesting. So many different tastes on this forum.

Nice treatment Peter. #1 very dramatic #2 interesting perspective but #3 does it for me. Like the lines and general feeling of tranquility. I wonder what a lone beach walker silhouette with footprints tracking the water's edge from foreground would do to the feel of the image. Then again I like its KISS priciple. Great photo!
Framed it would really calm the mood in a Ward 10B or my home around Xmas time

Did you see the colour version of shot #3 here

Definetly the tighter crop Peter, getting rid of grass at top of frame. With that said both are nice but i think I edge for the B&W, though the colour crop with a gorgeously tanned model in a white shoulder strap dress holding a pair of high heeled shoes walking third of the way into the scenefollowing the waterline would indeed tempt my eyes to follow her and her wet footprints right around that frame. I'll have to stop now I'm getting excited

Well truth be known, and supposedly only women can generally do this successfully, but i'm doing a couple of jobs at once. Trying to secretly make a slide show for my wife's up and coming 50th. Bloody downright near impossible. Ok, well maybe a short cold shower
Gee I wish I had more computing power at the moment and a hell of alot more PS skills. The early photos of one's 50 year reign sure do get faded and are in most cases horribly out of the ball park exposure alley. Bloody big job! Fool that I was to take it on.
