Another attempt at creativity. Does it work?

For me this one doesn't have the dramatic affect of your 3rd place winning Bridge shot, or your Opera house. But please keep experimenting, love viewing your work.

Thanks for taking the time to send me some feedback, Craig, I appreciate it. :) There's a lot I like about this photo, but there's also something that doesn't feel quite right to me as well, but I can't quite put my finger on it.

The original colour version has terrible light. Too harsh. I wanted black and white because I thought the stone would have interesting tones and texture. But I'm thinking that it doesn't really stand out enough from the background, the dark trees. I was wanting to salvage the photo in some way though because I like the composition. The post processing was fun. I'll keep experimenting. :)

I personally think that this is not the right kind of treatment to bring out the texture in the stone, rather for me its providing a new texture for the whole photos (that acid wash feel). Not sure what sort of treatment might be more appropriate but if you want to bring out the texture of the stone I'd keep to something that preserved the texture a little more (it's 5am here up troubleshooting for Singapore so I hope I make a modicum of sense).

This is the step after trying to bring out the tones and textures of the stone. :) First it was plain black and white. Different tones of black and white, and that wasn't so interesting. It was hard to get a difference between the background and foreground. So I then fooled around with it further. As I said before, there's still a lot I like about this photo. I find that the more I look at it, the more I like it. I've tried a lot of things with this photo, I can't many other ways to make this photo look interesting. Without any effect, it really looks dead boring. :?
