Hello all

I did a shoot for a young lady the other day who is looking to get into modelling.

We got up very early and arrived on the beach at 5.15am to catch the
morning sun but it was very overcast and actually rained a few times.
So much for that magical morning light! Clouds started to break up a
bit at 7.30am and it was cloudy on and off from there. Anyway we
perservered and got some nice shots I think. I ended up sending her a
disc with over 150 pretty good pics so overall I am happy with how it
went.

I had my assistant (my wife) use a reflector (mostly the gold side) and
I used a polariser on the lens for most of the shots.

All the shots were with either the 18-70mm lens generally around f7 or
the 70-200 VR generally at f2.8.

Comments and suggestions to help me improve are welcome on all aspects.

Some nice photos there considering the conditions... id just watch the placement of the gold reflector in some photos... it appears in the birds sunglasses... bit distracting

Very well done, I also like the second to last the best. However she should definately lose the shades, they do nothing for her.

Hey Spooky! Great shots.
One thing I did find distracting/annoying are all the rings she's wearing (no criticism of the photographer ) I'm sure you fellas probably weren't looking at her fingers but I found that the rings drew attention to her hands, which probably aren't her best asset, I thought they were a bit much and didn't "match" too well.
Anyway, as I said, not a criticism of the photo, just something the model might want to consider next time - especially if she's selling a product to a female audience.

There's come great shots in there and your model works well in most shots. My preference is for those in which she's showing some emotion - the 2nd and last.

#6 looks good even if highlights are seriously burnt.

The close-up in #1 doesn't work for me. She doesn't have perfect skin (who does?) and you're so close that there are a few spots/scars showing that distract from the photo.

Also - the girl seems to stand a bit funny, with her bum sticking out. It's unusual in profile to me - #5 and #7.

The shots themselves are nice to look at with good colours and detail

excellent work for your first go

I like the pose on the 4th one it's sultry but not too obvious there is hint of anticipation, although psoe seems a bit forced since she is trying to hold onto the swing apart from that the angle of her face appeals to me regardless of the overcast lighting.

The most photogenic shots are 5 and 7. Image 6 is great too but i cant see past the pocker dot bikini. Fashion/Styling plays a huge part on the overall image. The pose lighting and timing are working but the spotted bikini looks so 80's devoid of modern glam, compare this to the great styling in shot 5 the fashion suits the mood/concept of the image that being 'sexy mermaid wrapped up in tantilizing lycra, torn by the viscious ravages of the sea or a long lost sailor marooned on the beach.

The backlit one could of looked sensational if you had some bronzing creame tactfully applied all over her, a portable strobe light to illuminate her from the front or side. Then the right pose that exentuates her curvature with the sun backlighting her - ouch!

Nice lot of pics. Some need some work some don't. overall good try in some difficult conditions

Nice Spooky, I won't mention the nits that have already been mentioned. One thing I did notice that nobody has said so far is with the girl with the poker dot bikini. Check your placement of background items especially if they're not defocused. Having a tree growing out the top of a girls head is less than flattering

Also, do you ask your models if you can post their images online? I'm not against you posting them, it's just you might find some models that might get shirty if you post them without their permission.

Shot number 5 looks stunning to me, I could easily see it on a magazine cover!

Overall well done Spooky!

The only suggestion that you need to watch for is to have the thumb present on the shot where you have a hand showing.

If you look at most mags etc and portfolios if the hand is showing the thumb is present. It tends to complete the lines of the hand and not disfugure.

I'm sure that your model will be over the moon and so she should you have done and excellent job!!

Some beautiful shots especially due to the conditions at prime time. As has been mentioned gold reflector adds great feeling and warmth to the model (who's gorgeous by the way! It's always good to hasve your wife as an assisstant ) you need to take care of the relection in the sunnies (clone out or something). Also be aware of the background flotsam and jetsam that can be distracting e.g. #5. I really like the second last one with the surfers in the backgorund. Great shot.

Lovely shots Spooky but there were a few things that I felt would have improved some for me. As Kipper mentioned, the tree growing out of the head is distracting and easily avoidable. The hair across the face (pic 1) had me focussing on it instead of her eyes or other aspects of her face and, finally, I couldn't get past the impression that the shot with her lying on the beach looking back towards the camera made her appear to only have one leg! Most disturbing!

I think the second to last shot is incredible. So much mood is captured in that shot. Really sizzles!
