Forum rules
Please note that image critiquing is a matter of give and take: if you post images for critique, and you then expect to receive criticism, then it is also reasonable, fair and appropriate that, in return, you post your critique of the images of other members here as a matter of courtesy. So please do offer your critique of the images of others; your opinion is important, and will help everyone here enjoy their visit to far greater extent.

Also please note that, unless you state something to the contrary, other members might attempt to repost your image with their own post processing applied. We see this as an acceptable form of critique, but should you prefer that others not modify your work, this is perfectly ok, and you should state this, either within your post, or within your signature.

Images posted here should conform with the general forum guidelines. Image sizes should not exceed 950 pixels along the largest side (height or width) and typically no more than four images per post or thread.

Timeless Scene

I'm still without camera, so I've been looking thru some of my older photos and experimenting with PP techniques...

I took this at Clifton Gardens back in May and wanted to enter it in the competition, but needed to clone out a rather ugly rubbish bin at the end of the jetty...

This is a fairly timeless scene and I've tried to emulate the look of some of the photos of myself when I was the boy's age... I'd love to hear what people think of it...

John,
You've captured the scene well and PP'd it to really enhance the feel that you were trying to achieve. The enthusiasm in the boy's run along the jetty, the older person (? relative) looking on as if to say 'hmmm, I used to be just that enthusiastic about the simple things'. The conversion you've done is complimentary and the boats in the background help set the scene of a beautiful Clifton Gardens Day! Keep posting :)
Any news on an ETA for your camera?
If it takes much longer - u can always borrow my 2nd body.

It is an interesting shot... Definately acheives what you set out to do...

But in the name of being critical I would say that I dont know if I like the composition... Perhaps trying to get closer to one of the railings and using them to lead into the picture... and I also find what I assume to be your primary subject, the boy, a little smaller... perhaps a little closer to him??

Thanks for the comments so far...

I agree on the composition MHD... While I can't go back and shoot it, here's a crop which I think is slightly better...

Also in the name of completeness, here is the original shot, complete with rubbish bin...

I like the shot a lot John. I've probably got boxes of those sort of snaps lying around my parent's garage and it brought back memories seeing the style you've used here.

Cropped version is better IMHO.
