A honey eater I think. Taken at Coolendel.

Someone will probably beat me to this while i'm typing this in :)

It's a male Eastern Spinebill of the group Long-Billed Honeyeaters so i guess that makes your guess spot on. :)

I am surprised at just how many varieties of honeyeater Australia has. My book of Aussie birds lists quite a few more than most other species.

He looks cute next to those two flowers, that i assume he was feeding on.

Hi Steve

Thanks for that. I love these Honey eaters. I think they are my favourite bird but they dont stay around long for photos. I left the folage in rather than a tight crop to give it a bit more context.

nice shot,

the crop works for me because you can see the birds habitat around it.
Well done.

Hi Peter, this is a cool bird shot, i never take notice of birds of the feathered variety a lot as i know they are hard to sometimes capture let alone know what they are so well done.

Thanks for that. I guess the beauty of digital is that the 27 shots I took to get this one are not seen. I realised later that I had set the ISO to 1000 (for some lightning a few nights before) so it is a tadd grainy.

NSW birds seem very edgy and are hard to capture. I was working in QLD last week and on an early morning walk noticed the QLD birds seem more friendly and less edgy. Is it the sun, I wonder?

Queenslanders are generally friendlier than those south of the border.

(Except SE QLD which is full of ex-pat Victorians and proven daily by their inability to correctly use indicators or roundabouts especially the two lane variety. Yes i have had issues with them previoulsy.)
