Although some foreground foliage has softened this considerably I still thought I'd post it. I like the way the dragonfly seems to almost be hiding down in reeds.

That's extraordinary. I'm surprised you even saw it.

Camoflague at it's best, pity you couldn't squeeze a little more DOF out of this shot... but I like it!

Hi Mark
nice image though I have to agree about the lack of DOF.

I imagine you shot this at 300mm, so it may have been possible to take the same shot using 1/250sec. f16 ISO800, which would have given you significantly more DOF, but you would have had to hold the camera "very still" to get a crisp shot.

Bumping the ISO up can often help, and as long as you don't underexpose, high ISO can be your friend

...and it is amazing that you even noticed this amongst all the green :)

Thanks for the comments and suggestions folks. :D

I agree about the DOF but I always a bit hesitant to bump the ISO up too much and degrade the image quality. I guess like most things it's a bit of trade off.

Hi Mark.

Love the composition of the shot, and the fact that you spotted the Damsel Fly (I think) at all. I'm not even going to attempt to suggest settings/techniques to improve as your macro efforts have always put mine to absolute shame.

BlacknStormy will be coming along on the Cooloola trip and she's definitely the guru on insect macro style! She'll be only too happy to discuss.

:)
