I'm not in Ansell Adams's league, but i would like to try and emulate a nice B&W landscape with some dramatic effect as he did. This is my first real attempt.

Flinders Island, Bass Strait.

WOW! Is that full frame or heavily cropped....or....I guess what I am wondering...will it print OK? I'd like to see the sea a little darker and a bit more contrast in the clouds...but anyway. WOW!

(see the sea?)

Terrific potential in this shot with a little PS work. I really like the light falling on the low lying clouds across the island. As matt says play with contrast doge and burn tools and I think you may just have a winner.
cheers

I like it, and in fact I don't know if I'd want anymore contrast, but that could be my monitor. Plus the grain in the darks may get out of hand. Love the darkness of the island. Makes me think of Michael Kenna or someone like that.

This is a crop at about 2000 pixels across, by kit lens@44mm, however i did have presence of mind to take enough images at both 85mm and 200mm to make a panorama of it. Unfortuately it was getting dark so i had to up the ISO, which the D2H does not do that well.

The graininess is the D2H searching for noise. :) It was one of those evenings when a 6x7 would have been perfect.

Anyway, i'll work on the pano. :)

Stunning Steve. I saw this and tried something myself like it but failed miserably. Lovely.

Steve,

If you read the Gospel according to St.Ansel entitled "THE PRINT" he will tell you how to do it - you will then need to translate darkroom techniques as practised by him to computer techniques.

This pic of yours is a spectacular moment and a wonderful gift to you - you can get there with it with justr a bit of work and thought.
