Wonderful. I've always wondered what they look like. Did you need to agitate them before they glowed?

There is a bioluminescent organism in the sea that glows when a ship passes them as they get agitated. Were these critters the same? I'm not sure how you would agitate a worm though, perhaps tell it he's not good enough for cheap tequila.......

They glow without your input - it's to attract the bugs into their threads (a bit like a web).
Somewhere amongst these pics I have one which you can clearly see the actual worm. When I get back to Aus I'll dig it out.

Not a huge amount of light at all unfortunately - really hard to come up with the right exposure! With a lot of them, there still wouldn't be enough light to really see.

those glow worms are great. When we were in NZ waitomo caves didnt allow pictures.

hehe - that's why you don't pay to go somewhere like that - many, many other great places to go for free - IF you know where to go

Great shot of the glow worms I know for a fact that this is not easily accomplished.

There are glow worms also closer to home near Lithgow, the glow worm tunnel is an old railroad track on the way to Newnes.

Yeah I know. Straight after the glow worm tour, went into the glow worm forest in fox glacier for glow worms. It was freeeee

hehe - yeah, got stuck in Newcastle for a night coming home on Sunday and am now into Year-end so haven't got much time to wade through the 5000+ images! Could have been worse on Sunday though - had some good company and great wine & food
