I like this new toy!!


But I still have a lot to learn.. I got some usable ones, out of the 115+ photos I rattled off in my first playing session. It was getting quite dark so obviously lighting was a problem. Had a bit of success with and without the flash, but most of my shots ended up blurry or out of focus. Mostly my technique I think, either I'm moving the camera after I've locked focus, or I'm stabbing too hard on the shutter release, or I'm just not pointing it at the right spot. Have to figure out the exposure controls, and what to do when, a lot of times I was trying to hand-hold shots at very slow shutter speeds.

Still, it was a bunch 'o fun, and I can see myself enjoying learning how to take good photos!! Click on the thumbs below to see a larger version...

Official first photo taken on the D70s, straight out of the box, default settings! I chose to attack our bunny with the camera.. Now if only she will stand still...

Thanks for sharing your first pics. That rabbit doesn't look too happy. Must be the droopy ears giving me that impression.

We have had ducks, dogs, cats, seagulls, etc., etc., and now a bunny - for straight out of the box you have done well with these shots

Yeah, I think the bunny was a bit sick of me following her around! As I only have 70mm as my longest focal length, by the time I got close enough to take the photo, she'd get spooked and run off! Still learning how to take photos of subjects that are moving erratically. Have to get used to the viewfinder too.. I've been so used to using LCD screens on compact digicams to frame my shots. Probably should have tried lying on the ground for some of those shots

So many buttons and dials... sigh.

Looks like the bunny was mighty sick of that bloody camera by about jpeg 5 or 6

Once you've got the hang of the DSLR, you'll be amazed at how much more freedom and creativity you'll have coming from the P&S... Just try out all the different settings to see how they affect the image, you're gonna have fun

Get along to a mini-meet, you'll have a ball, learn heaps and meet some great people
