Forum rules
Please note that image critiquing is a matter of give and take: if you post images for critique, and you then expect to receive criticism, then it is also reasonable, fair and appropriate that, in return, you post your critique of the images of other members here as a matter of courtesy. So please do offer your critique of the images of others; your opinion is important, and will help everyone here enjoy their visit to far greater extent.
Also please note that, unless you state something to the contrary, other members might attempt to repost your image with their own post processing applied. We see this as an acceptable form of critique, but should you prefer that others not modify your work, this is perfectly ok, and you should state this, either within your post, or within your signature.
Images posted here should conform with the general forum guidelines. Image sizes should not exceed 950 pixels along the largest side (height or width) and typically no more than four images per post or thread.

Hi all,
this afternoon when my wife and kids went to the beach, I stayed back (not being a beach person at all) and eventually got bored, since there isn't much for me to do at my parents' place...
Consequently, I picked up the camera and explored the backyard. The most interesting thing I found was a feeding frenzy in the grevillea bush. Here are a couple of samples:

Whichever sweets the rainbow lorikeets couldn't reach the bees were eager to dig out. Unfortunately, they were far to agile for my tracking skills, so the most presentable I've got is a butt shot:

I liked the soft light this late afternoon, and the colours and low contrast it yielded.
Finally, for a dose of festive kitsch, an image my wife particulary adored when she came back home. With it go my wishes for a happy remainder of the holiday season and a merry cross-over into 2006:

Cheers
Steffen.

The color seems so vibrant in the bird shots and so soft and subdued in the rose pic (although I'd be tempted to play with some levels or curves with the flower itself)... Sharp as in the focal spot/plane too...

The 2 bird shots are outstanding and have commercial value. Well done!

They were all taken within 10 minutes or so. The light was just great. The grevillea was still lit by the low sun, the rose was in the shade. I didn't do any levels or exposure changes, only cropping and standard sharpening. If you look closely, there are still a few hot areas in the rose petals (in the red channel of course). I had tried similar shots earlier today, and they were horrible - unmanagable contrast. mudder wrote:(although I'd be tempted to play with some levels or curves with the flower itself)
Tell me more, please. I'm a complete idiot when it comes to PP.
Cheers
Steffen.
